A Song of Ice and Fire Thread
« on: April 15, 2012, 06:21:33 PM »
Lets discuss the book series/hbo show a game of thrones. How do you like the show so far? Where do you think the book series is going? I have a few theories that I'd like to share but I want to see if there are any MUBBALL/Thrones fans on here.

I didn't read the books, but love the show. I thought last weeks episode was a little weak, but I am very excited for tonight's episode

I'm through the first 3 books and the first 2 episodes of season one.

I've enjoyed the first 3 books.  I just hope it doesn't get too out there with the sci-fi stuff in the next few books.

funny, i was turned onto the books by one of my knuckledragger friends.

It's fantasy, not science fiction.

I'm of the master-race book readers.  Show-watchers are vastly inferior and their tears are delicious.

In all seriousness the HBO adaptation has been a joy to watch.  I haven't watched the first few epi's of S2, but that's because they were bound to be slow.  I'll catch up in a little while here.  They've committed to S3 and it looks like they'll split book three into 2 parts with the wedding being the end of S3 of the TV show.  I'm glad it's been popular enough with the masses to get some good stuff on the boob tube.

I'm hoping that GRRM finishes the books before he dies, unlike Robert Jordan.  GRRM is a poor writer, but he has a great story to get out so I'd like him to finish it... he's just not getting any younger and he doesn't seem to do anything besides trade-shows :(

GRRM does a really good job of not interjecting too much fantasy into the series. I agree he is not the best writer (especially in Dance With Dragons) but the story is good. I wasn't too much of a fan of last nights episode. They strayed from the book a lot which is not necessarily a bad thing (see yorens background story and the scene where they tried to imply Theon struggled with turning his back on Robb). What I didn't like but I suppose they had to do was the way in which they condensed Arya's story.

I am about 200 pages into the second book.

That being said... I wish this board had the ability to create a 'spoiler alert' portion of someone's post so the book/show doesn't get ruined for me.

I intentionally stay away from spoilers which has made me really love the Breaking Bad series...

So for the love of god... please write **** SPOILER ALERT **** if you are going to talk about something that gives away plot lines.

there's some speculation an 8th book may be required to complete the story.

If I pick up book 2 now, after watching season 1 on HBO, and the first few eps of season 2, should I be ok in picking up with the story?

Na, you'll have to read the 1st book.  There are 50+ characters in the books that are not in the TV series.

The characters are minor but you will be confused if you don't read the first.  Good point.
