I'm really impressed that for the third time in three years Shaka has managed a 7 game BE winning streak. It got me wondering how important winning streaks are for winning it all - given you need to win 6 straight to do it.

Since 2000, only 1 champion had less than a 5 game winning streak during conference play (non-con no matta) - UCONN in 2014 with a 4-gamer - and 18 of the 23 champs had streaks of 6 or more (counting UCONN's 6 game streak in 2011 which technically started with a win against ranked Texas before 5 conference wins).

Being able to string together wins during the regular season clearly has some correlation with post-season success (a necessary condition - would be interesting to see at what point a regular season streak becomes a sufficient condition - say for FF - of the teams with at least a X-game conference winning streak, how many made the FF - but that would be much more work!).

My gut feeling is that it isn't a better predictor than overall record.

A conference winning streak might just reflect having a stretch of games against mostly lesser (non NCAA tournament caliber) opponents.

I would think that a lot of small and mid-major conference tournament winners have pretty significant winning streaks in their conference season. At the very least, using conference winning streaks as a predictor for tournament success would have to be limited for major conference. And once we do that, I can't help but wonder if it's stating the fairly obvious: the best teams from major conferences tend to do well in the tournament.
Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

I remember when we were wondering how long it would take to win 3 in a row.

I agree. We'll see what MU is all about over these next three weeks. UConn twice. Road games at Creighton, X and Butler. The team is in a great position to defend the BE, but the upcoming schedule is challenging to say the least.

I wouldn't say we are in a great position with UConn being 2 games ahead in the loss column, but we do control our own destiny which is all you can ask for.

We R Final Four

The most important winning streaks are in March. Shaka has put together several winning streaks in do or die situations.

—5 games VCU PLAY IN GAME FINAL FOUR
—5 games TEX NIT CHAMPS
—4 games VCU CBI TOURNAMENT CHAMPS
—4 games VCU A10 TOURNAMENT CHAMPS
—3 games VCU CAA TOURNAMENT CHAMPS
—3 games MU BEAST TOURNAMENT CHAMPS
—3 games* TEX B12 TOURNAMENT CHAMPS
*= KU forfeited game due to covid on team

Those are all must win games, and the games got more difficult than the last one.
Very impressive list. Just need to add 6 games to the list.
