So...How are you feeling about Cuse on Saturday now?
« on: January 05, 2012, 01:33:27 PM »
I have to admit, I was thinking about the Cuse game a lot last night during the G'town game.  Ironically, within 13 minutes, I thought about it from two completely different angles.

When we were up 15-17 points, I was thinking how great it was going to be heading into Saturday with a 2-0 Big East record.  With a G'town win in the bag (riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight), my mind began to think that we could go into Syracuse, beat the #1 team in the nation, and then squarely be the Team of the Week (in ESPN's Weekly Watch).

As MU fans (and let's face it, if you're on this site as much as I am, the term "fan" is as much of a disservice as calling a Ferrari just another car), we toe the fine line of insanity with each made/miss shot.  With that said, it's amazing how 13 minutes and 12 seconds can completely alter your perception of Saturday's date with the Orange.

Will another "debacle" (Buzz's term for the Vandy performance), completely crush any confidence and/or optimism the team has for Saturday?  Will Cuse want bittersweet revenge over last year's Sweet 16 loss (I'm talking about a 25-30 point drubbing)?  Could the G'town collapse possibly make us more focused and more motivated to right our recent wrongs?

What do you guys think?

I am (as usual) pessimistic. I think these kids work hard, but we are once again back to being undersized. Plus, I.m not seeing that Zar/JFB type of hoss that's going to put this team on their back. Buzz is a good recruiter, but not a strong situational game coach. Then again, let's not think about how much $ I lost in last year's tournament with the thinking that we were lucky to beat them once, now Fab Melo has developed and we don't stand a chance. My hope is that they can put this (second) debacle behind them and play their asses off.

Nothing changed for me. I thought we could beat 'Cuse yesterday, I still think that today. I thought losing was more likely yesterday, I still think that today. My main change is that had we won yesterday, I'd be if the opinion that if we followed that up with a win Saturday we would be the front-runners for the Big East title. Now, even if we win, we're still looking up.

Highly unlikely we win in the Carrier Dome. They are super tough at home and we will be forced to take jump shots all game. We just do not have the horses to beat them on the road unless cuse plays ragged.

Anything is possible...yesterday will be a great teaching point for Buzz, especially for Mayo. Right now last nights loss still stings, but I think at the end of the year it will be serve as something this team can build off of, especially when we travel to Nova, ND, UConn, and Cincy later in the year.

Cuse is very talented and deep, especially with Fair and Waiters coming off the bench.  The Carrier Dome is a tough environment and I believe MU will still feel the mental effects of the Georgetown loss.  I don't see a win, but I hope they don't get throttled.

I'm expecting another painful experience, although I expect it to start sooner than the last 13 minutes.

I am more confident of a win against Syracuse after the Georgetown game then before it.  And by more I mean we have a 30% chance instead of the 15% i would have given us.

AS A WHOLE, last night was the first excellent game we have played without Otule.  I don't care as much about the order of points.  A couple of years ago Cuse was blowing us out by like 20 and we cut it back to a couple of points on Lazar's and-one off a flagrant foul (never thought I'd see that).  For me getting blown out by 20 in one half and winning 15 by another half isn't that much difference - find something that works and the other side adjusts.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

Typical of the Buzz era, even though 'Cuse is at home, more talented, and has something to prove to MU, I think this game will be close. Don't know how, but it will be.

Edit: Although it will be close, 'Cuse wins.

For some reason, and of course i have NO stats to back this genius prediction up of mine...

Marquette is going to win by 6.

Went through many of the same emotions.

When we were up big against GTown, I told my wife that I was thinking maybe we should go to a bar with a few other local Marquetters to watch the Syracuse game. (I don't have that TV package at home, meaning I'll have to watch it on ESPN3 unless I go to a bar that has Big East Net.)

After we lost and my mood was ruined, I was thinking, "Why bother going to a bar and spending money on food and drink just to watch us get killed by Syracuse."

Now that my inner voice of reason has returned, I'm undecided on exactly what I'll do. I'm going to watch it somewhere, but I still have to admit I'm not looking forward to it as much.

Damn human nature. Gets the better of me every time.

I've felt Cuse would handle MU easily for the last few weeks. A win last night wouldn't have changed that opinion. Unless MU plays a perfect 40 like the Hoyas last 20, they'll be coming home under the gun at 1-2.

Not good.  Only way I see it is a lights out (+60) from 3s. I don't see how we control Melo on either end.

given the talent on Syracuse, at the Carrier Dome and payback desired for knocking them out of the NCAA, I expect Syracuse come outs on fire and gets a big lead and does not lose the big lead....  Cuse by 18
