Did the selection committee say we were one of the last six in? Or is that conjecture on the part of the analysts and our own posters?

Once again, CBS and ESPN both posted the graphic of who the last six teams in were based on what the selection committee said.  MU was fifth on the list, but the first non-bye team.

I understand the graphic, but did they assume just based on seeds? Could we have been bumped to an 11 due to logistics but still be well in?

Marquette would not have made the Tournament without beating West Virginia last Wednesday. As it was, they were one of the last 6 in.
Your right.

chico's - shouldn't you be busy finding material to start a thread on how someone thinks MU should not have gotten in?

Part of the reason for why we got an 11 seed instead of say a 10 seed could simply have been a function of there being 11 Big East teams selected.

The committee i'm sure had some struggles trying to fit 11 Big East teams into their brackets while at the same time trying to avoid to many potential second round matchups between Big East teams.

Now my theory certainly could be total garbage and Marquette really did need that win vs West Virgina to get in, but either way, we are in and nothing else matters.

Plus, i don't see Xavier being a much tougher draw than if instead we'd have been a 10 seed and had to face someone like UCLA, Temple, or Washington.

How in the hell can you say that?

Lock means we are getting in ... and we got in?

Again I ask, are we 11 seed because that is what the committee thinks of us or are we an 11 because they had to move BE teams around because the conference got 11 in?

We don't know and will probably never know.

Honestly I think they did move us down a seed or two because they wanted us matched up with another BE team to prevent a potential Sweet 16 with 11 BE teams.  Not that it had to be us, but that we were the ones they happened to choose to do it to.

#6 Cincy and #3 UConn got the same treatment. Easily could have been preventable within the brackets by swapping MU with #10 Georgia and Cincy with #7 Temple.

I know - I think we were a 10 and they moved us on purpose to cut down on the possible number of BE teams in the Sweet 16.  Because of their seeding choices, there can only be 9 BE teams in the Sweet 16 instead of 11.  It's like the committee said "sure you can have 11 in, but we're going to make sure you cancel each other out."

Umm...we all know who the last team in were...CBS and ESPN both posted the graphic.  MU was the last non-bye team.  That's a fact.
That is based upon the seeding. The number one seeds are ranked 1-4 and then the best number 2 seed is paired with the worst number one, and it continues like that. Given this, the rankings mean very little once they committee reaches the thick of the field. There are MANY factors that place teams in given seeds, including committee evaluation, location, opponent, future potential opponents, etc. Based on evaluation, the committee could have easily had Marquette in the field for all we know.
