I know that Marquette had interest in Nick in High School, but how close were in his recruitment?  I seem to remember something about the coaching staff wanted him to have surgery on his foot and redshirt, or am I confusing him with some one else?

Because looking at his stats:

Nick Fazekas
Height: 6-11
Weight: 240 lbs.

PPG 20.9 | APG 2.0 | RPG 12.6

He sure would look great catching passes on the blocks from the big three.

And looking at his past seasons, he would have been great in keep Def. honest down low and allow Novak some space outside.

It was down to MU, UNLV, and Nevada.   Both us and UNLV wanted him to have surgery on a foot problem he had in high school and redshirt his frosh season.  Nevada didn't.   If I remember correctly he was leaning MU before Nevada said that they wouldn't make him have the surgery.

Utah was in the final three, not UNLV.  I think MU made it to the final 2

he's a heck of a player

Utah was in the final three, but eliminated first.  Fazekas went to watch Rick Majerus run a practice and almost left midway through he was so disgusted.  So that put it to MU and Nevada, and the rest is history.

UNLV, Utah, they both start U's.  I do remember hearing that Majerus story now that you mention it.  Maybe thats why I though UNLV lasted longer than the Utes.

I hadn't heard the story about Majerus.  What was it about Utah's practice that bothered Fazekas?

I hadn't heard the story about Majerus.  What was it about Utah's practice that bothered Fazekas?

No idea, its never mentioned in any of the storys, but the quote they always use from Fazekas's father is, "we were sitting on the edge of the court, and (Rick) Majerus was running practice, and Nick said 'I can't stand watching this."

But thats all they say about it.
