Entertainment Suggestion - Rodrigo y Gabriela
« on: November 03, 2006, 02:39:59 PM »
In between my job as a software engineer, and tweaking features of this site, I do occasionally get a chance to have a social life (I know...shocking).

Anyhow, last night I went to the Rodrigo y Grabriela concert in Boulder.  This was unfortunately their last stop on the US tour - however they will be back (in fact, in Seattle & Denver in December, probably more to come).

Anyhow, if you EVER get a chance to see them - DO IT!  You will never have more fun watching two people play acoustic guitar on stage!  I guarantee it!

They're originally from Mexico, now living in Ireland for about 7 years.  Their music is, well, sorta Jazz / Rock / Spanish fusion (but they got their start with a metal band in Mexico).  However, their technique makes them fun to WATCH too (Gabriela totally rocks...).  If you appreciate music at all, I think you'd be entertained at one of their shows.

Anyhow, stop by their website http://rodgab.com/ , listen to their music, watch the video, pick up a CD, and see them in person if you ever get a chance!

One *small* warning, it's all instrumental, but they do some narration of their story between songs, and they tend to drop the f bomb a lot (though with an Irish-Mexican accent, so sorta funny).  Anyway, if you think that would bother you terribly, then the show may not be for you.

An update - these guys have a show scheduled in Chicago on May 4th (as well as DC Mar 20, NYC Mar 21, LA Apr 14...I know we have posters in those areas.)

Full tour schedule here: http://www.rodgab.com/live.htm

Check 'em out if you have the chance!

Gaby rocks - seen both their shows in CO so far (actually, they've had 3 I guess, but I missed the first one - they were opening for someone).   Funny though, their CD (on sale at Best Buy right now...) comes with a DVD that has a tutorial on it.  I watched the first 5 minutes and decided that if I ever took guitar lessons, and then practiced for about 10 years, maybe I would be able to attempt the stuff she does.  Her hands are flying, it's incredible.

Funny....I hadn't heard of this duo before but my my sister-in-law is a big fan so next week we are going to the Leno taping on Thursday and then seeing them in West Hollywood the following night.

Ironic!!

Thanks for the clip on the website...great (unique) sound!!  Should be fun!!
