Let me also be perfectly willing to criticize Crean if this does in fact turn out to be true. MU made an unprecedented financial commitment to him. The ink is barely dry on the extension he signed through 2017 for crying out loud. Yet, he is willing to walk away from that. I understand that's the way it works, but its also incredibly weak. MU did not have to do that, but they did? How does he repay them? If he had 3 years left, 4 years left, that's another story, but he has 9 years left on a huge contract that has made him one of the highest paid coaches in the country the past several years. Weak, weak weak!

This hurts a lot.  It's open season on our recruits for next year and McNeal and James are that much less likely to return.

I was beginning to think this day wouldn't come.  Hate to see him go, but I don't blame him.  He may struggle for a couple years with sanctions, but Indiana is a great job in the long run.  He left the basketball program in much, much better shape than he found it.  Let's hope we can parlay that into a great replacement for him.
Calvin:  I'm a genius.  But I'm a misunderstood genius.
Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

MU in Miami

I hope coach Crean stays.  But if we need a replacement, maybe they can bring back Kevin O'Neill:  http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3324436

Sad day.

If it's true, we'll never set another attendance record.

You've never been happier have you....sad.

You hit the nail on the head. Like I said in another thread...I feel betrayed.

Don't go all west virgina on us.  Why would it matter if he has 3 or 8.  He had the right to leave if he felt it was best for him, I'm sure MU has been aware of the possibility.

ESPN just confirmed and said its done.  Press Conference tommorow.

All I know is that f-ing Cottingham better bring in an established coach. I hated the fact they brought in that used-car salesman to be full time AD - despite the fact he's never hired a big-time coach.

This could have disaster written all over it. O.K. Steve...step up, or step out. You f this up, you not only lose recruits, James, and/or McNeal, but you lose attendance and donations and interest.

And anyone that wants Kevin O'Neal here is a sap. That guy is a bum. That's like the Michigan people that are all bent out of shape because they didn't hire a "Michigan man". Everyone always wants to stay in the comfort zone (see Majerus, O'Neal requests from people on here).

They should look at:

Miller - Xavier
Kruger - UNLV
Lavin

And...they need to get someone hired soon. Clocks ticking Cottingham. You better not f it up!

I agree.  Majerus and O'Neill are a joke.  The program is at a different level than it was when they hired Crean and should be looking to stay on that level.

I would say thay we should try to hire someone who would want to stay here and not just try to "move up the ladder," but what's the point now?  If we can't get this guy to stay with all we've done and all the mutual things that have happened through the 9 YEARS, then we might as well just try to get the best possible and have him move on in 3-5 years too.

Rest assured, if you offer Sean Miller and he accepts he will be gone the next time a "better" offer comes along.

He couldn't succeed at UCLA.  You don't even have to show up to win at UCLA.  Keep him way far away from here.

Man, I feel bad for you.  We all know your feelings.  But you choose this moment to prove that you don't have a single ounce of class in your body.

You all got your wish.  Ran him right out of the program.  We'll see where we head from here.

This is jujst s stupid comment. Nobody here had anything to do with what happened. MU more than took care of the guy and he chose to leave.

Look around.  Most people on right now are celebrating.  And those voices (not just message boarders) were getting louder and louder every year.  I personally defended him seemingly every day of every season.  You can claim that doesn't play a part.  No one will know the answer to that.

Get real!  There are about 300 people on MUScoop right now.  I've read posts from EXACTLY 2 people celebrating -  PRN and 4ever.

A far cry from "most".

With all due respect, you may want to look again.  There are entire threads with "don't let the door hit you on the way out" sentiment.

Selective perception I guess.

Chicos' Buzz Scandal Countdown

It's interesting looking back at threads like these now. Makes this year and the status of the program under Buzz seem sweeter.

Yeah...thanks for bumping this.  The one thing we don't discuss often enough here is Tom Crean.
