standard deviation is 0.103

The result against Georgetown was within one standard deviation.

Still a crap day shooting free throws, though.

If we had hit our average against GT, which is .706, we would have only hit 26 of 36 rather than 23 of 36.  Enough to have won the game, but it's not like we missed a huge amount below our average.

Exactly.  Most are remembering that we started the game 1 for 8 and fail to realize that we shot free throws very well in the second half.  Also 25% of our free throws, 9 total, were taken by Burke and Mbakwe our 2 worst free throw shooters and DJ shot an additional 6 and he is far from a good free throw shooter at under 70%.  Add in zero from Hayward and I am not surprised that we missed 13 out of 36.  Free throws was only one factor of many that cost us the game but again we need to realize that we played against a top 10 team, hardly a pushover and should have won.

Actually, we only missed the projected number of free throw points by 1, based on who shot them and their FT % before the game started.  Please note: boring day at work

James (68.57% going into game) made 2 of 6 (should have made 4.11)
McNeal (67.78%) made 7 of 12 (should have made 8.13)
Matthews (73.55%) made 8 of 9 (should have made 6.62)
Burke (51.72%) made 3 of 5 (should have made 2.58)
Mbakwe (44.44%) made 2 of 4 (should have made 1.78)

So all together we made 22, but based on our percentages we should have made 23.23, which rounds to 23, which means we missed our projected points at the FT line by only 1.  Of course, it would have been nice to have that point in regulation...

Good point CTWarrior.  I think we may have made all(?) of our FT's in OT.  If so, then we may have actually made more FT's in regulation than our individual averages would have projected to!  Does anyone have the FT stats in OT only?
