Not that length, depth, and finishing you excitable heptagenarians!

I'm talking hoops, one game at a time young men.

Alright, so you can't judge much on cupcakes, we all know that, or we've learned it the hard way over the years. As a matter of fact, I think I remember myself getting excited about Marquettes "elite" defense last year after the first two games, and then I went to the game at the United Center...

Enough of that, forget that abomination of a season.

I won't say too much too early this year, because I learned my lesson.
However, I will say that it seems fairly confidently obvious that this years team should be much improved in the listed categories.

Finishing in this case does not only mean around the basket- which should be a no brainer improvement- but I moreso meant finishing a defensive possession with a rebound.
So, I think I can confidently conclude that after two games of whoopass against the minnows that this years team should be much better served with its added length, rebounding, and overall depth both in the front court and at guard.

The rest remains to be seen, but a small tip of the cap to the defense so far as well. It's been elite but I'll reserve full judgement for yet another week, but it seems that Marquette should be vastly improved here too, which tracks given those three improvements discussed.

Also, the fellas seem very calm/comfortable and happy out there, yet serious. Seeing things like DO smiling ear to ear at the end of the game and on the bench in the 2H after playing very well in the early going yet not getting a lot of minutes is a great sign.

PS... notice I didn't include shooting in the list... cmon fellas let's tickle the twine a bit more on those open looks

Dr.V,

I think we're night and day better this year.  That doesn't mean it will click immediately against better competition, but keep in mind 3 of our 4 best players have basically deferred in these two blowouts.  We have a lot of interesting pieces and a legit center. I think we have a chance to be really solid defensively.

Showing athleticism and certainly talent... and that's something these buy teams don't have a lot of.
Challenge comes when we play the bigger boys who meet/beat our guys talent and athleticism.
Nailing those threes (a bit surprised at the low percentage as this is truly MU's court)and, yes, converting FTs against serious competition are musts when athleticism and talent ain't enough to sail thru a game.
That said, fun game- awful broadcast!

I expect 2 losses in a row next week.
