Quote from: tower912 on October 26, 2026, 07:05:23 PMThe only thing I have heard is from a presser with the Colorado coach.  Generalities like he always likes facing a Shaka team.  Well coached, well conditioned, always pressuring which his team struggled with.

Shaka slurper.

Don't hear that too often about a Marquette team.

Hoping we hear that a lot this year. Sure showed in the MSU game.

I think mine are the same for now. I was pretty bullish on this season with the returning core anyways. I think the TO count was concerning to me, but impressed with how strong our bench looked. Maybe same floor, but higher ceiling at this point.

Agree. And the TO problem is much easier to correct than trying to develop bench players who simply don't have what it takes. With a stronger bench, injuries, foul trouble, and illness of our starters is not as scary as it has been in the past sometimes. Add in the starters getting a breather so that they can finish a close game strong, and it all adds to our ceiling potential.

Oh...one more thing. I really enjoyed seeing Mike Heldt on the screen.

No, we still suck! Should have beat them by 25 points.

Chatting with Sparty neighbors.  They were impressed by MU but not surprised, as they think Shaka is a really good coach and would have his team bounce back.  Ticked about the play of their bigs.  Want them to toughen up.  Disappointed, but not overly.  Exhibition and Izzo will toughen them up.

Yes as a result of this strong showing,

Yeah, bracketology is a joke.

Izzo has gotten through to his team.  They were swarming on defense against Toledo.  Sure, only Toledo, but Sean had no room, no angles.  Could not get into the paint.   In juxtaposition to the IU game I watched right before, where Bellarmine's best offense was taking IU off the dribble and getting to the basket.   Sadly, the Knight's looked like last year's MU team at the rim.

The defensive intensity was noticeable.

Thanks Tower. Agreed MSU likely did not play their best against MU in a meaningless exhibition game.  But I suspect last year's MU team would have gotten pounded and the MSU bench would have played much more.  My hope is that MSU is the real deal this year and we get continued good reports. That MU physically matched up with them well, regardless of their motivation, is a positive.

Other than having Benetti and Hummel cracking me and each other up, the thing I noticed is that Izzo is really amped up.  More than I have noticed in seasons past against lower level teams.   I think he knows he has a potentially elite team, knows he does not many at bats left, and is really pushing this team.

As could be said for MU.

I don't disagree fully but MU probably had a tad more motivation.  MSU has been a stalwart for years and has a preseason top 10 ranking.  I would think that would be slightly motivating to see how you stack up.
