Quote from: muwarrior69 on Today at 12:27:57 PMHow can Nash Walker be "home grown" when he is from Australia?  ;D

MU82 did say "most" and also said "two of our best players". He has quite a knack for creative math with "bazillions" and other numeric terms I have never heard before, but he got "two" right, so there's that. Nice try on trying to catch him with an error, but no cigar.
Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

Hey, I use creative math only eleventy-gazillionth of the time!

Quote from: Captain Quette on Today at 10:26:14 AMVia a source at Xavier, I can confirm they are in the 12 to 15 range. This info in the article seems on point to me.

Xavier is just over $14M. Richard Pitino had to testify under oath.

The fact that the university wastes so much money on such a trash product is inexcusable.

I like it.  Fire up the regulars.  Give them someone to focus on instead of each other.  Thank you for your efforts to bring the board together.

I wonder if Farley is Willie's son?

Nah, Farley lives in his mother's basement and never gets out of his jammies all day. And for all of joyless willie's many warts, he doesn't hate MU hoops like Farley does.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Quote from: Juan Anderson's Mixtape on Today at 12:56:21 PMYes, I'm well aware of this since I used to work in TV news.  That's also why I know of many cases where anonymous sources and off the record sources are often the starting point in investigative journalism.

The journalist should look for confirmation in most of these cases, not just report vague and anonymous information.  Either get people on the record or find documentation to back up these claims.

Otherwise, you are letting your anonymous sources dictate the narrative without actually proving they are telling the truth.  Agents are incentivized to overinflate the numbers in order to look good to future client, while schools have to walk the fine line of appearing financially competitive in order to land future players, but without wasteful overspending that makes them look like underachievers.  They also have to avoid hurting their future fundraising efforts, so they have be careful to not look like they have too much money.  They can't cry poor if donors know the truth!

The Norlander report has absolutely no corroborating evidence for these anonymous sources.  It relies strictly on blind trust. Teams are grouped in ranges that vaguely tell the reader how much these teams might be spending, but stops short of assigning specific values to specific teams.  The article fails to name specific compensation for any player by name.

The whole thing is shrouded in mystery.  That is exactly what the power brokers want.  Nobody wants transparency, they only want their highly controlled narratives to be presented as unquestioned fact.  A journalist's job is to unveil the truth, not act as a PR extension for the parties whom benefit from this mysterious environment.  Overall, Norlander's article is an incomplete story and for that, it is a journalistic failure.

It's also possible that the journalist did look for confirmation by gathering statements from competing anonymous sources. It's also possible that the anonymous sources provided corroborating evidence to support their statements on the condition that it not be published. We don't know.

I think it's less about trust in the sources and more trust that the journalist did their due diligence and is presenting the information accurately. In this case,  I don't think Norlander is trying to present the information as anything more than it is. It's an attempt to sort schools into very broad tiers. He is also transparent about the limitations of his sources.

Is it pulitzer prize winning stuff? No.  But i think it's a fine attempt to give a small bit of transparency to a very opaque topic that the public has a large interest in.  The alternative is to not report at all because no one is going public with these numbers until forced to.

Thought maybe the great pain Marquette causes Willie has turned Farley into an anti-Marquetteite because of the damage it's done to his father
