Was Shaka aware that any of those players would even be a possibility when he agreed to bring on Crowdis? I'm not disagreeing with you, just asking the question.

Zero clue what Shaka was thinking — none of us do. But given how the Porter situation played out, leaving that last scholarship open for an actual contributor instead of locking it up with Crowdis would've been the wiser move. Especially now, when portal additions come much cheaper and there are legit upgrades still sitting there.

It's great that there will be more depth behind both Nigel and Adrien but I have no idea if this will stick.

I think we can make a few conclusions about MU's roster with this signing.

1. I was worried about backcourt depth and shooting. Apparently the staff was as well.
2. Nash Walker's recovery from injury might take a while for him to get on the floor, and he won't be playing as much PG
3. The competition for SF minutes between Nolan, DO, MPIII, and Alex just got more heated because Nolan won't be playing as much PG. I think DO and Alex will slot in more at PF to free up Royce as a small 5.
4. Shaka and staff are confident in Josh Clark being able to step up and play solid minutes, otherwise they would have prioritized grabbing a big.
5. Colton Crowdis is at least 2-3 years away from being able to contribute

I think this player impressed big time on the culture parts of it that pushed him over the finish line in terms of getting an offer.  They need point guard depth but rather than over thinking how that compares to a big - I wonder if they just weren't really impressed with "this" guy in particular..

50/50 on whether the kid even plays given the constant lawsuits, TROs and injunctions related to players in his situation.  And ... if they list him at
5' 10", we all know he's closer to 5' 8.

That said ... he can probably be a decent backup PG for 8 to 10 minutes a game.

It also says to me that in Canada SS saw that he has a real issue in that spot, as the only other option is Nolan, who is obviously a 2 or 3.

Yep. I laughed my ass off when story broke about then Liberty president Jerry Falwell Jr., his wife Becki and the pool guy.

Since we are only about 45-50 minutes from Liberty, the story stayed front and center for quite a while.    It eventually blew over, and the sanctimonious bible thumpers were back to being sanctimonious bible thumpers.

Hey, as long as this guy can play well, that's all that matters. Not all of Liberty's athletes buy into their schtick. I would guess that they are never reported for breaking the rules.

Yeah I don't understand Johnny's comment. He is clearly being brought here as Nigel's back up and has a bunch of experience. Hopefully he can stick around.

If Porter is able to play, MU will be bringing in a guy who played heavy DI minutes all four years of his career at Liberty... which last year went 17-3 in conference to win CUSA. 

He'll play more minutes than this board is predicting... on ball or off ball, by the time BE play comes around, he'll get more than 10-15 mins a game.

I think it's a very good thing they have a back up ball handler/point guard now.  But if it took Shaka til Canada to realize he needed a back up ball handler, as someone implied above, that would mean he didn't learn anything from last year (position specific of course). Nigel can't play 40 minutes a game.  And when Nigel came out of the game, the offense went to hell. 

I hope neither is true and Shaka had a plan all along to bring in a backup point guard.

The caveat to this is Nash was his back up and, like others have said, he is not doing well in recovery.  Canada should have had nothing to do with it.

He's going to be eligible.  The NCAA has bigger fish to fry here.

Scoopers already have the pitchforks out for Shaka, so I'm not surprised all they read this strictly as "Shaka misevaluated his squad during the initial portal window." But Nash's longer recovery from surgery probably has a lot to do with this. I remember the 3-point shooting numbers in Canada weren't great so Porter should help.

If you look at Clark's Canada numbers and some of the offseason reports about his development, maybe the need for a backup 5 isn't as great as we assume it is? I'm not sold on it either but it's feasible. Dude is 7'1" so you only have to squint to find some potential.
