At my first practice as a middle-school head coach, my son and daughter (who were both former HS starters) and I demonstrated the 3-man weave in an effort to teach it to the players. We might as well have been trying to teach them how to split atoms.

A friend of mine coached a Middle School aged team (not part of a school district). He explained to one kid the importance of getting his arms up high to block shots. The kid kept his arms up the entire time after he was put back into the game, even when no one was near him.
