Quote from: Hards Alumni on Today at 06:21:18 AMNah, he is absolutely correct here.  If other schools can manage it why do we not ask the same of our school?  The interest is clearly there as well since there is no football going on.

Streaming a game is the smallest of small asks.  No one is asking for a full production.  Just set up a camera and stream the game without comment to the school's website... or, heaven forbid, do something like Purdue did.

I understand the frustration with brew's constant 'bone to pick' with the current admin, but he isn't wrong on this one.
Brew better watch it. He might become eeyore77. Not that that is a bad thing. I do agree with him though that not streaming these games is not good PR. Sure, the games are meaningless except we get to see, not just read a box score, on how our new guys performed outside of practice.

Quote from: The Sultan on July 29, 2026, 08:06:02 PMWell, because taking "every opportunity" to engage fans isn't a realistic standard.

I guess I'm just annoyed at brew b*tching every off season. Haunted Hoops...lack of hot dogs...lack of streaming....  Yet they will likely be top 20 in attendance again this year. It's like these guys are professionals who have figured out what moves the needle when it comes to selling tickets.

Anyway, at some point the constant complaining just becomes chicken little nonsense.

Yeah! Stop the constant complaining about the constant complaining. At least Scoop is the Gold Standard in giving fans "every opportunity" to engage about Marquette Basketball.

Yes

Quote from: Shooter McGavin on July 29, 2026, 10:13:48 PMThere is no logical reason to not stream it. You can eventually hammer people complaining about it incessantly.  Say in a month if they are still bitching about it.  But you can't logic your way to rationalizing a silly marketing mistake.

Yep. Exactly the same with the decision of 18 over Sheek, causing Sheek to leave. It was illogical and wrong, but I get why some people don't like hearing the criticism.

Sheek left for educational reasons.  He chose the school over Marquette.  I get why some people don't like hearing the criticism.  It wasn't about money or playing time.  In fact, he isn't even getting money to go there.

Because, for whatever reason, they simply don't want to. I have no idea what that reason is, so I have no opinion if it is valid or not.

What I do know is that it's not that big of a deal.

Quote from: Hards Alumni on Today at 06:21:18 AMThe interest is clearly there as well since there is no football going on.

I never claimed there was no interest. But I think the interest is small and most will simply move on without thinking much of it.

Quote from: The Sultan on Today at 04:19:22 AMDo you know why they chose not to? I don't. So I have no idea if their choice was "logical" or not.

Regardless, Vander is right. It may be annoying to the hard cores, but ultimately is meaningless.

Why does the school do things like social media clips? Player interviews on YouTube? The radio show? Shaka going on podcasts? Most engagement plays are "meaningless" in a loss leader with an already loyal & niche fan base. But MU does do all those meaningless things for engagement so the question isn't about whether it's meaningless or not it's why they wouldn't take a rather simple and small step to keep up with peer programs by streaming?

Im not going to lose sleep over it, but I also dont lose sleep if i miss half the social media content or a non con buy game. But watching MUBB gives me (and others) enjoyment id have preferred to watch than not watch.

I would suggest that fan engagement on social media and YouTube is far from meaningless. It is a way to connect and engage the Marquette basketball community year round.

Streaming a couple blowout exhibition games in late July? Near meaningless.

That's pretty much splitting hairs here. Even yesterday, we have 3 post game interviews posted, a posted final score, a post stating it's game day, 2 posts showing multiple photos, and a bunch of highlight clips 1 posted, 6 on their story. How can you rectify that social media presence about having a game as more impactful than actually showing the game. The thesis for posting all that content is that fans care and want to stay engaged, a great way to reward that desire is by actually showing the team playing.

It's really not that hard to rectify. They show clips of practice and don't stream the whole practice. It's no different. People scan through social media all of the time. Very few people are going to stream an exhibition game taking place on a Wednesday afternoon in July.

I imagine you have evidence for that? Someone posted about Purdues buys for their game, doesn't seem like the best figures to back up what you're saying.

It's an opinion on a message board.

Marquette had a reason they didn't want to stream it. It's really not that big of a deal to anyone but the hard-cores and/or the perpetually aggrieved.

Social media posts will do.

How many people do you think will not watch on tv or not go to a game or not buy merch this season because 3 games weren't streamed in late July/early August?

Social media posts will do.

Which is fine but then Brew's or Hards or Shooter my opinions that it was worth while to boost engagement are equally valid opinions.

I'll agree Marquette had a reason they chose not to stream it, my theory is Shaka doesn't like extra scouting out for his team. However, let's not split hairs here and pretend that it's meaningless while posting as much as they did on the game is somehow meaningful. It's either something to advertise or it's not. If the NBA did this same thing with the summer league or FIBA did that with a friendly match it'd be viewed as a fail. MU should be held to the same standard as any other major basketball organization.

I was hoping for at least 3x the amount of content coming through their social media feeds. That might still be coming, but I was a little surprised by how scant the coverage of the first game was, especially considering other teams are streaming the games.

Calgary has a player with 9 from behind the arc.

Is he interested in transferring?

It's the tariffs. I'd prefer that money go to keep Nigel and Royce around.

Are we collectively melting down that Clark came off the bench AFTER Caedin Hamilton?

What do we think about Minessale starting over DO and MPIII?

They may be "valid," but they are bad.

Are you unaware how social media works? Maybe you should take a class on it or something.

They use social media to highlight practices...but they don't stream them Is that "splitting hairs" as well?
