Quote from: Juan Anderson's Mixtape on August 28, 2026, 08:02:55 AMThe NCAA's decision making invites lawsuits.  With foresight, they could have smoothly transitioned from the COVID exception to full 5 year eligiblity.

But no, they decided to do it in a way that singles out a particular group of people.  I guess the one thing the NCAA is great at is creating new plaintiffs.

They can do more forum shopping with the federal government

Even if they pass it, the House is out until after the midterms. Even then, there is far less solidarity in the House on this bill given all the various constituencies.

And the NCAA thought that the best way out after the years of stupid decisions was to ask Congress to take care of college sports.  ;D

Surprised the senate had time for this given the scourge of furries in the sky.

Will never make it through the house.  Will never survive in the courts and will cause greater distress for the schools and NCAA when athletes unionize.

Yeah, it would likely be shot down in the courts given that it rather restricts individual rights as there is no collective bargaining agreement.

#82
Today, the U.S. Senate voted 77–23 on September 24, 2026, to adopt the Cruz-Cantwell substitute amendment for the Protect College Sports Act, advancing the high-profile college sports legislation.

MarquetteMike1977

From Tonight. WASHINGTON -- The federal bill aimed at reshaping the college sports industry took a major step toward becoming law Monday night when the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly voted 77-22 to pass it.

The Protect College Sports Act (PCSA) moves next to the House of Representatives, where it will face some opposition from both sides of the political spectrum and a narrow window to garner support. House representatives are not scheduled to vote on any bills until after November's midterm elections. If it doesn't get through the House during a lame-duck legislative session before a new Congress takes over in January, the full process would have to start from the beginning

Thankfully that legislation doesn't look like it'll go through.

Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey, a former Stanford tight end, proposed an amendment that would hold coaches to the same kinds of financial and transfer regulations that the bill intends to place on players.

The amendment failed, 47-52.

Coaches are employees. The 'student-athletes' are not. But, they probably should be, aina?

People are incredibly unprincipled.

So I guess the question should be rephrased to when will the courts issue their final ruling on Porter being eligible to play.
