There will be lawsuits on the lawsuits. And then lawsuits on those lawsuits. By the time there's an actual ruling, Ben might be Social Security eligible. (Or whatever Australia's New Zealand's version of Social Security is.)

I'm not sure this ruling holds up.  If it does,  it could radically change how next year looks. Someone get Ben on the phone!

For right now it only affects those players who were a part of the class action, three of whom were Xavier and Cincy players. In a totally unrelated coincidence, the judge who ruled in favor is a Xavier and Cincy Law grad, and his wife is the Dean of the Cincy law school.

For the time being, it seems several more players have been granted eligibility to return and play a fifth year.

Among the list of names: AJ Storr 💀

This was always obvious:

Quote from: brewcity77 on April 26, 2026, 04:23:36 PMThe reason the portal has slowed to a crawl is because this is coming, everyone knows it's coming, and it's going to be in effect by next year. Four-year 2026 seniors that choose to return will be able to do so in 2026-27. That is definitely the most likely outcome and safest assumption to make.

We'll see if it stands up but I wouldn't trust NCAA lawyers to overturn this

Would love Ben Gold back if he wants to be a backup big

This just in:

"Judge Charlotte Sweeney of the U.S. District Court of Colorado has granted a class-wide preliminary injunction that requires the NCAA to declare eligible all high school class of 2022 athletes who exhausted four seasons of eligibility this spring."

So if a school has already filled all 15 scholarship spots they can still add any returning 2022 athlete without affecting the scholarship cap? Also this means we could have Fru for another year?

Doubtful on point one.  Unsure on point two.

Lawyers will be making some cash the next year plus.  Like always.

Nothing published says anything about going beyond the scholarship limit.

Fru is irrelevant to this decision. I believe Fru already has 2 years with us but the NCAA hasn't publicly clarified when the cutoff is for how it's counting academoc years.

Even if Fru will be eligible to play college ball in 2027-28, there's no guarantee it will be at Marquette. He'll get paid large - maybe by MU, maybe by some other school.

We agree. Given the incredible player turnover in college hoops, Shaka has done extraordinarily well at getting the players he wanted to keep to stay at Marquette. I like to think he'll be able to do the same with Fru should the opportunity present itself because Fru - like Nigel, Parham, Kam, etc - will so value his relationship with MU players and coaches. Bro.
