  • Design of special 1977 era uniform to be worn during the season
  • Creation of 50th anniversary merchandise (available beginning in July at Marquette Spirit Shop)
  • Screening of NBC Sports television broadcast of title game
  • Recognition of fans who attended championship game and season ticket members since 1977
  • 1977-themed fan giveaways at Fiserv Forum
  • Season-long display of 1977 memorabilia (trophy, uniforms, media guide, title-game tickets)
  • Marquette Magazine feature
  • Social media features/content focused on team's run to the championship

muwarrior69

They should bring back that 1934 Packard with all the living members of the Championship team posed around the car. It would be a great reunion gift for the players.

I think we're supposed to get New Jerseys this year anyways? Are they saying it'll be designed as an homage to that team all season or this is a one off?

To the second point, this might be unpopular but I feel like they should have a mini "HoF room" in the stadium for games as it is. Show the tournament title, the runner up, and final four, conference championship trophies. Then just a visual showcasing our program's tradition. Wouldn't take up a ton of space, would be something for people to stop and look at or take a picture with in the hall way during games. Certainly better than having them collect dust in the Al 99% of the time. [/list]

The Jordan Brand extension release mentioned "the men's and women's basketball programs will both feature new uniform designs in the upcoming seasons, beginning with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1977 National Championship team in 2026-27."

Guessing it's more than a one off.

I wouldn't mind if they kept the retro golds and player designed jersey from last season as well.  Think this would be a great set:
  • Retro Golds
  • Player Designed Baby Blues
  • 1977 White Jersey
  • Current Navy?

Hopefully they don't use the designer of the Howard era jerseys.

Last year's player designed jerseys were among the best we've had in years. I've love to have them in the regular rotation.

What is the current navy? Is it the ones Kam designed or is it still the ones we've had since Wojo left?

This is what I was picturing.  I'd be more than willing to swap the Navy for another one.  Maybe a 2003 navy.

If they truly want to honor the 77 team, just roll out the 77 jerseys home and away (along with the warm-ups... although would the arrowheads on the sides be allowed in this day and age?)

But I'm not sure the NCAA would allow untucked jerseys? Maybe request a waiver for one year? That would be classic - literally and figuratively.

I remember seeing pics of the 1997 team playing a game in '77-style throwbacks honoring the '77 team. Does anyone remember that game or have pics of the players wearing those?

I did find a pic from the 1992 25th anniversary celebration game (this was before tucking in jerseys became such a point of emphasis):

They should absolutely allow this to happen.  Or the NCAA should be immediately terminated with zero warning or mercy.

If not, MU should sue the NCAA as a free speech violation.

I was a HS junior in Connecticut in 1976-77, and Marquette was not yet on my radar as a possible destination. Pretty much everything I knew about the school, the Warriors and Al McGuire came from the few games a season that were on national TV and the occasional Sports Illustrated mentions. I learned a lot more during the NCAA Tournament.

MU was the defending national champion when I decided to go there, and "we" were expected to make another Final Four run in 1978. I proudly wore my Marquette t-shirt and hat to school the day before the NCAAT started. Then the Warriors promptly lost to Miami of Ohio, and my buddies trash-talked me for weeks ... as if I had anything to do with the loss. Thanks a lot, Jerome Whitehead!

Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to seeing the various celebrations of and tributes to the 1976-77 Warriors. That must have been an incredible time to have been a Marquette student.

Kind of similar.

I was a senior in 1994 and had already decided to attend MU. Well, at church the morning of the Kentucky game, we were talking about the games in Sunday school, and one of my fellow seniors who was a total dick said, "There's no f-ing way Marquette is beating Kentucky. You just think that because you're going there." He said nothing the next day at school! At the time, I did not have any MU gear (when I toured MU, it was the winter break, so the Warrior Shop wasn't open), so I wore a Golden State Warriors shirt to school.
