In any regards, due to the high price of gas, has anyone opted for purchasing an EV recently even though the government incentives have stopped?
We opted for the Chevrolet Equinox EV in August 2025.  No issues other than the slow mph audible warning needed a software update.
A peculiarity was that it came with no spare tire or jack.
The car took a nail in one of the tires the first month.
Took it to a little local tire place.
The tire mechanic showed me the inside of the tire.
It has a coating of some type of polymer mastic lining the inside of the tire.
The theory is that if you take a nail, the mastic will sufficiently flow around the nail to seal it temporarily for you to have time to take it to a repair place.
Heard the reason for no spare and jack is that the vehicle is too heavy for a standard jack they provide with IC cars.

I jumped on an extremely cheap Ioniq 5 lease (zero down, $128/mo) last summer.  It's a really nice vehicle.  Quiet, lots of range, lots of power, I get free "fuel" at home (solar), at work (provided), and the local ski area. 

Like you, I had a punctured tire in December, large chunk of what I think was a semi's tire chain.  Anyhow, the car only comes with "slime" and an inflator, but the puncture was too big.  Hyundai towed me to the nearest dealership (for free), and I paid $45 for a tire plug.   Since then though, I think the slime gummed up the tire pressure sensor, so I need to go back in to get that serviced.

I'm also now carrying more standard tire plugs and rubber cement in case it happens again.

It's not an EV thing regarding no longer having jacks/spares. Most new vehicles no longer have them to save on cost and decrease weight (as others have said) to reach higher fuel efficiency standards.

I blew a tire on my Mach E on some road debris - Ford service towed it anywhere I wanted.  The acceleration and no gas bills is pure fun.  Only use it for commuting though.

I did not buy anything.  She bought a CX-50.  First gas spike pissed her off.  Outback got crap mileage.  22-26. Internet deep dive.  Landed on the CX-50 hybrid due to immediate availability and able to test drive it. 38 mpg combined.  Yup, Toyota hybrid engine.  In her words, the driving experience is as big of an upgrade over the Outback as the fuel efficiency.

So we have a hybrid.


My 6 with 166k miles still gets 30-32 in mixed driving.

I ended up in an argument with Heisenberg (shocking, I know) about a decade ago about the future of electric cars.   He was an early adopter and convinced that EV's would have 90% market share by 2025.  I argued that it would happen but would take longer.  Pretty sure I said something along the lines that my son's (now 19) second new car post college would likely be an EV.  Feel pretty good about that one.

With my wife having a hybrid for long distance trips (can't afford to fly), the likelihood that my next car is an EV has gone up.  I want the package, though.  I want a charger in my garage and solar panels on the roof powering the charger.  And I want the next generation batteries Toyota is  working on with 600-700 miles of range.

The upcoming Mazda hybrid engine also intrigues me.

At age 79 I most likely will not buy an EV as both my cars have only 65k on them. However, all our yard and power tools are battery powered. We went with Ryobi 40 v system: line trimmer, leaf blower and edger. We just got rid of our gas mower and replaced with a 40v Ryobi 21 inch walk behind. We also got the 40v 2000psi power washer. I could cut my half acre lot on one charge with the 21 inch, but use it primarily to get into places the 42 inch lawn tractor cannot go. I can get about an hour of runtime on the power washer with 2 12ah batteries and an additional 30 minutes with 2 6ah batteries that came with the lawn mower. The batteries are expensive, but pushing a button is a lot easier at my age than pulling a cord to start the gas engine.

Yes, we have solar, 22 kwh system, and pay the solar company $225 a month on 20 year lease to purchase. We live with my daughter and son-in-law so we can mind our grand daughter while they are at work. Beats paying for child care and makes our retirement income go a lot further as we share expenses. A win/win for all of us.

Mazdas all drive better than the others.  We are looking at the CX-5 when they release the hybrid next year for it.  Our 2013 full ICE is up there in miles.

So, unfortunately, there is a 'deal' the power companies and other private businesses have where they put the panels up and then lease them to the home owner.  I don't want to call it a scam, but it's basically a scam. 

Just purchase them and have someone install them.  There is no reason for any payment plan or lease, or any of that other nonsense.

Right.  The PV system was a pretty good deal, not free.  And produces about 20% more electricity than I use on an annual basis.

That's a GIANT system!  I paid for mine outright, only 9.6kw but also with a Powerwall 3 for whole-home backup.  Almost exactly $20k after all state and federal rebates. 

But yes JB, now that' I've invested in the PV I don't have to pay any additional royalties for my use of the electric.

The power company installed a power plant on his house and is only charging him 270% more over the lifetime of the unit than you paid! 

Plus, I'm sure you sell back your 20% to the power company, Rocky.  I wonder if the power company is crediting muwarrior69.
