Quote from: tower912 on May 02, 2026, 11:27:26 AMIt is entirely possible that he told MU of his intentions only 3 hours before the end of the window to move freely.  That means nothing in relation to what happens now or whether more players come to MU.  Players who put their names in the portal in that window can now make their decisions at their convenience.

Yes this is what happened and the source is top 5 and as inside as it gets.

Not that surprising.

It was money.

Money was by far the most significant factor.

If it was role, why didn't he enter the portal much sooner?

He was recruited under the old model. MU brought in a player from the portal to play in front of him as many minutes as he can handle.   (Paraphrasing MU insiders)

And then SLU offered to bring him home for starter money.  How much more straightforward can it be?

Both/and.

Yes, it's completely straightforward that it was primarily money.  If it was role, he would have entered the portal as soon as he was informed that Shaka was recruiting a starting 5.  And he was absolutely aware of that.

Because he was waiting to see if another center would transfer out.

I'm not amazed at all. He loves this schtick. I mean.... this is from a guy who started a thread to keep us updated about his Pickleball successes.  ::)

This interview/season preview with Shertz is interesting.  Sheek doesn't seem to be penciled in as the starter and looks to have at least one if not 2 players ahead of him at the center position.  Not sure how much money he was offered - if it was more than the other centers - or if we couldn't match - perhaps once he reneged on his accepting Marquette offer that was it..  At any rate being a back up does not seem to be the major issue...

I'm not reading past the first paragraph, let alone paying to read it, because:

Saint Louis emerged as one of the best stories in college basketball, winning 29 games and capturing two Atlantic 10 titles (they tied for the regular season title and lost to Dayton in the conference tourney) before falling to mighty Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (second round).

Being potentially the back up to a back up 18 was what opened the door. SS bet on 18 and JC. That's it.

SLU as the landing spot came
after a decision to transfer.

So you think he left because he didn't want to potentially be a back up to a back up and then chose a school where he will potentially be a back up to a back up?

Sheek entered the Portal with a "No Contact" designation. The landing spot was already determined and the amount already agreed upon.

If he makes more money and remains a back up to a back up, sure.
