Quote from: DFW HOYA on September 15, 2026, 05:19:52 PMGeorgetown fans don't travel to road games any more, so it opens up seats for MU fans.

It's not quite DePaul in DC these days, but it's trending.

Will be interesting to see the attendance figures between the two schools this season.  I would think DePaul would edge GTown out.  There is a hint of momentum under Holtman.  Beating MU last year when we have beaten their ass for the last 25 years didn't hurt either. It caught some diehards attention.

DePaul went 0-6 against BEast tourney teams. Only one of them was not a double-digit loss.

Oh, I'm not saying they are back.  I'm saying they may be better off than Georgetown and the fan base is starting to take notice of Holtman and what could be.

DePaul has tourney upside this year. By no means a sure thing, but after St John's & UConn at the top, they are right in that mix with Nova, Providence, Xavier, and us.

Was leaving Creighton out of your 2nd tier an oversight, or do you think they fall into the 3rd tier with Butler, Seton Hall, and Georgetown?

IrwinFletcher

DePaul has a competent coach now.  He is engaging with the fans much like Crean did.  If they can show some progress in the non-conference, they could have some decent home crowds, much like they did on occasion last year.

Really don't know what to make of them. Hard to see how they got better than last year, which wasn't very good. I also will be skeptical of Huss until we see results.

I'd have Creighton between those two groups.

It's kvetching not kevetching. There is a good spelling and grammar teacher here on Scoop. His tutoring rates are very reasonable.  ;D

Coming from a guy who mentioned he had "prostrate" problems, this is rich.

Agreed about Huss...but I think they upgraded their roster significantly:

25-26 Roster BPR:
PG: Nik Graves: 4.61
SG: Austin Swartz: 1.99
SF: Josh Dix: 4.34
PF: Jasen Green: 4.51
C: Isaac Traudt: 2.21
B1: Blake Harper: 2.20
B2: Fedor Zugic: 0.14
B3: Hudson Greer: 0.20
B4: Owen Freeman: 4.04
B5: Ty Davis :-0.78

26-27 Roster (using 25-26 BPR):
PG: Brody Robinson 3.75
SG: BJ Davis 5.33
SF: Wes Enis 3.67
PF: Jason Green 4.51
C: Oswin Erhunmwunse 4.39
B1: Fred King 3.96
B2: Jackson McAndrew 3.19
B3: Isaac Traudt 2.21
B4: Austin Swartz 1.99
B5: Katrelle Harmon top 100 FR

It looks like they downgraded in PG, but upgraded the rest of their starting lineup and massively upgraded their bench.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

brewcity77

Maybe. Lots of same pieces, so Green, Traudt, Swartz you're just hoping for internal improvement.

Davis vs Graves, probably an upgrade. Oswin on paper is great, but every time I watch him I come away thinking he has bad hands and is a defensive liability. His advanced numbers are great, but PC fans were not at all disappointed to see him leave (and were saying as much all of last season). King was never very good at this level. Are Robinson and Enis upgrades? Maybe, but need to see them do it at this level. I am high on McAndrew.

But if you have a coaching downgrade and a team that already struggled defensively (and has any time they didn't have Kalkbrenner the last 15 or so years), it's hard for me to get too excited. Sure, Huss had the best defense in the Big South his last year at HPU, but it jumped nearly 100 spots (226 to 141) the year after he left and they've got a massive resource advantage over everyone else so it's not really apples to apples.

I have serious reservations about the Jays defense and considering how the rest of the league upgraded, am not sure their roster improvements make them stand out over Providence, Xavier, DePaul, or Marquette.
