Quote from: MuggsyB on August 04, 2026, 09:49:35 PMTbe Brewers are the first team to 70 wins and have the best record in baseball to this point.  That said, I just looked at Yelich's stats.  They're a total abomination.  At some point you have to move on and use him as a pinch hitter.  You cannot have him batting 1-5 or anywhere else in the line-up.  Don't they have a number of better DH options?

To be fair, they had him down at 7th tonight until Bauers was a late scratch.

Yeah because that's what you want from a DH.

The Brewers' pitcher was taken out in the 6th after 8 straight strikeouts, 1 hit, and 69 pitches?  WTF?  He looked pissed.

He's either mad he's hurt again or mad because he thought he could pitch thru

It was a coin flip for Harris at the trade deadline.  The Tigers have a really solid record since June 1.  However, their May was about as bad as humanly possible.  Harris held on as long as he possibly could, waiting for a defining winning streak like the Red Sox had.  The Tigers have done it before.   Then, Detroit dropped 4 out of 5 with horrible bullpen collapses (more blown late inning leads than saves) and he pulled the trigger.
Carpenter and Vierling went on the DL.  The hitters suddenly started hitting the ball everywhere.  Fun to watch.  I doubt it is sustainable over the next 45 games because the bullpen still stinks and there will be close games.  The starting rotation, barring more injuries, is workable.
The AL is still mediocre, so it is possible Detroit bats stay hot enough to keep them in it.  I think it more likely, though, that the bats cool off and the bullpen blows more leads, leading to 77-78 wins and being a few games short.

Unfortunately, tower, the Tigers don't get to play the Mariners 40 more times.

No unfortunately.  They dug their hole.  How close do they come to digging out of it?
