Quote from: Pakuni on March 12, 2026, 08:57:43 AMYou're not wrong that he's not great at describing the play, but I couldn't care less. I don't need someone to perfectly describe what I'm seeing. I know what I'm seeing. I want someone who brings energy and enthusiasm to the moment, and who capably sets up the color guy to (hopefully) offer useful analysis. On that front, Fanta nails it.
But if you need the more traditional play-by-play, I think Fanta is barely 30 years old. He's going to get better.

I hope he does. There are two main things that bug me about Fanta. First, he talks too much. There are so many times where the air doesn't need to be filled or where his partner's voice is needed and he doesn't allow those moments. Second is that he's too excited. Not every shot in the second half is a mammoth moment. That's why Gus & Raft were the best. They knew how to give each other space and when to amp up the really big moments.

I also think Field of 68 did him a short term disservice. They made him their lead announcer every time they broadcast a game and Dauster and TO always gassed him up about how great and professional he was, which seemed to make some of his bad habits worse. Hopefully he'll get better in the next decade because I'm sure he's not going anywhere.
