What Fanta lacks as a good announcer he makes up with enthusiasm for Marquette.  So I give the guy a pass.  If I was an Xavier fan, might take a different view.

I don't get the Fanta hate.  He is going to position himself as the next big color guy for the NCAA, and he's good at it.  He is incredibly likeable.  Sure he is a little over the top, but the most memorable guys sell the game they're watching, and he does it. 

If you guys don't like him that's fine, but he is going to be this generation's Dick Vitale.

I like Fanta. He's energetic, loves the big east and is a hard worker. Also very young in his career.

The problem is he does play-by-play, not color. If he was the sideline guy and/or in studio, he would be good. He does have positives he brings to the broadcast, but it is not as the play-by-play guy. He doesn't have the rhythm or feel for it and all the knowledge and passion he has for Big East can't hide that in that role.

You're not wrong that he's not great at describing the play, but I couldn't care less. I don't need someone to perfectly describe what I'm seeing. I know what I'm seeing. I want someone who brings energy and enthusiasm to the moment, and who capably sets up the color guy to (hopefully) offer useful analysis. On that front, Fanta nails it.
But if you need the more traditional play-by-play, I think Fanta is barely 30 years old. He's going to get better.

I hope he improves, since he does many MU games. Still think he is miscast on the broadcast. Improvement is not a guarantee though, see Homer.

You can do way worse than Fanta.  Brando is the worst.  Each time he announces, it sounds like his first time seeing a basketball game.
