Easy way to generate support for an unpopular war

I think they know they're cooked in the elections as it stands and are getting all their geopolitical aspirations out of the way.

Be careful about immediately getting conspiratorial, we already have a dental school.

What makes you think this administration cares whether it's popular? They don't even care if it's legal.

Except it wouldn't generate support. We started this thing.

This. Americans have zero interest in a war with Iran at this point; an actual attack on Americans, particularly on American soil, completely changes the equation and plays into our regime's hands. The administration would be thrilled if this happens.

Disagree. A large swath of our dopey citizens won't care who started it...

It's not all a conspiracy!

I was only playing out the scenario. Sultan is of the opinion that if there was an attack on the U.S., it would not galvanize support for the war. I disagree, because the one thing you can count on is the public braying for blood the second an attack occurs here; broadly, the public won't care who "started it".

The Big Kahuna must be thrilled that he has upped his game. Why settle for capturing a country's leader like Maduro and taking him out of the country when you can take out a country's leader like a "made man" and Mafioso?

To be clear...I know that both guys are/were awful. It's the basic principal I am challenging. Muggsy advocated for Putin's assassination so he must be very happy about the acceptance of assassination as a legitimate tool.

And yes, I know the CIA has been involved in assassinations over the years. At least our government pretended to not know anything about it.

Don't need one.  If anything happens, it will because the US allowed something to get through on purpose.

To be honest, if Trump just decides to stop American attacks right now, he could declare "victory" (Kahmaeni dead) and pull out.

I was meaning an attack on the contiguous states. Not overseas bases

I'm sure he'll declare victory no matter what happens, but do people actually believe the Iranian regime is going to crumble because its 86-year-old leader was killed?
There's a scenario here where this is the first of many dominoes that, if they fall right, ends the regime. But there are so many plausible outcomes here, not the least of which is that the regime comes out of this more hardened and extreme.
