This is objectively and obviously wrong.

He's still our best defender. Maybe not man to man but he's definitely the most disruptive.

But he's at best our third best offensive player

I'm not sure on both of your points.   Getting the most steals doesn't necessarily mean you'rs the best defender.

How about the team playing its best defense when you are on the court?

basedcringeMU

I don't think it's even accurate to call Chase our 3rd best scorer. Stevens despite his recent duds has been much more efficient

Does anyone think the offense Shaka runs is not fitting the type of players he has?

I think he needs to scrap the 3s and at the basket only. Pitino ran a number of plays that created some easy midrange shots.

Seems we've become easier to guard by never taking quality midrange shots. Nigel of course took a few tonight and knocked them down - I'd argue easier shots than many of his at the basket shot quality attempts.

I guess that's fair and our other perimeter players are probably worse.  But during critical junctures in the game he's been pretty awful frankly.

We're not really running an offense as far as I can tell.

Caedin 1 rebound in 13 minutes. Not sure why Caedin was in Marquette up 6. Saint John's misses a shot and Caedin feebly does not get the rebound. Ugh

Agree officially equal to the most Marquette loses of any team since the 1964-1965 team. We have been season ticket holders of at least 4 seats for almost 60 years and front row for over 20 years and we plan on continuing our support. Marquette will be Back next year and Better Guarantee.

Caedin obviously in because Royce had the 3 fouls and Ben needed a rest with his bad ankle. Honestly think they would be better off playing small ball in that case as Caedin is just over his head.  Can't rebound, can't score and a rather lost often on defense. Like playing 4 on 5 with him in game.

Tip will be around 8:10

This is the case every single game, which is the second of two games scheduled two hours apart. Maybe it's more noticeable when you attend the games but if some people would just learn that this is the way it is it would save you some aggravation.

Quote from: warriors141 on February 18, 2026, 10:21:44 PMWhy would you have Ross as the guy with the ball he has not made a clutch play all season so unnatural carnal knowledgeing dumb

Maybe because the opponent's plan is to smother James to prevent him from racing downcourt to the basket?

wisblue

I just scanned the thread and didn't see any mention of this except for an observation that Clark was not on the bench.

On the way to the game, my daughter (who spends a lot more time on social media than I do) said that there was some chatter citing one of the team managers that several players have been sick the last couple of days. The only name she mentioned was Stevens.

After the game, Shaka said that the team hadn't been able to practice much because of illnesses and mentioned that that was why Clark was not on the bench.

Based on performances and minutes played, I wouldn't doubt that Stevens was not at full strength, and that Phillips may also have been affected.

I don't think I believe that anymore. I know he doesn't have Ross' efficiency, but I trust Tre (slightly) more on defense and his usage is low so his offensive deficiencies hurt us less than Chase's do. We might be better off if Tre got all Chase's minutes.

Feels somewhat insane to say, but the more I watch Chase fade in and out of games and make mistakes down the stretch, and the more I watch Tre play his role and effectively pick his few spots per game, the more I think it's the rational move.

Wait. This can't be true. The worst record in 60 years? Shirley, you are joking. What? It is true. Thank you Shaka Kahn. We truly are a low major and the doormat of the BEast.
Al, Hank, Rick, and even the Piano Man are rolling in their Graves. Meanwhile, this team is just rollin'

I think he realizes that, and it's why there are a couple of shooters in the pipeline.

It was all second half as well. He did well anyway.  Give it to him to dribble and drive and kick to an open man if he doesn't have anything.  Way better option. As soon as Chase had the ball after the in bounds it was a lost possession.  Game over.  Water is wet.

When they went down 9.   They called time out and went to "bully ball".....Nothing outside 5 feet and crash the boards....

We have a sad lack of big man physicality.....

Simple as that.....

Yep.  MU not a complete team.  Wore us down.

But when you're down by 4 points with 20 seconds left and have to go full court there isn't time to weave your way downcourt, drive into the lane, and kick out if you can't get to the basket.

Giving Ross the ball got the ball downcourt quickly, but he missed the good look he got. James would not have been able to get there as quickly because he would have been double teamed or trapped.

I was actually hoping that MU would go for a quick 3 as a Hail Mary because getting a quick two and fouling right away still requires a missed FT to make any progress.

Shooter McGavin

I understand your point.  Chase may have been one of the best options there.  Unfortunately just not a good one on a poorly constructed team.  Need more offensive versatility and they just don't have it.

It was a fun game though.  Nobody has quit.

I agree. When looking at the recruiting shortcomings on this roster, the lack of strength and girth is one of the bigger ones. MU has guys who look good dunking when there's no traffic but few who can convert in traffic and few who can hold position defensively in the paint.
