His last jump significantly longer than the Norwegian who beat him with the same difficulty and execution, yet the Norwegian got a slightly higher score. Unbelievable! (Full disclosure: I have 60 minutes of television viewing knowledge how this sport is judged.)

I just watched too, and thought that doesn't look good medal winning.  The kid from Fairfield looked like a winner.

The Norwegian must have had more $tyle that the judges could see.

Do you feel the judges in general have been anti Team USA?  I saw the replay and agree with your assessment of the situation.

I don't think the judges have been anti-American.  The commentators did say the Norwegian kid did something risky and different and weren't sure how the judges would score it.

Okay.  Perhaps I am biased.

NBC probably could've scrapped the profile when the featured athlete didn't even get top 10 in her event tonight.

Quote from: MuggsyB on February 15, 2026, 10:54:40 AMI hate to say it, but beating Canada in men's hockey is going to be nearly impossible.  Assuming ww meet each other.  Their roster is absolutely filthy.

Canada's absolutely filthy roster needed overtime to beat the Czechs today. It would not be a major upset if Team USA beats them ... that's if the Americans can get past Sweden.

Canada still won, all that matters.  Was indecisive as to whether to root for the Czechs to eliminate them or root for Canada because I want the excitement of a possible US matchup. The power play line up of McDavid, McKinnon, Crosby, Maker and Reinhardt is crazy.  Thats four future Hall of Famers.

Mickaela redeemed herself today, smoking the field for gold in the slalom, good for her.

Jordan Stolz tomorrow at 10:30amET for gold number 3.

Losing Sidney Crosby early in the second period contributed to that.

The point is that Canada is hardly an unbeatable juggernaut. And neither is the U.S. Both very fortunate to advance.

Two extremely exciting hockey games. A treat for fans who don't need fights and cheap shots to enjoy the sport.

He's a great player. Olczyk (who is really good) had just pointed out that Hughes had waved off the bench because he wanted to stay on the ice. And then lo and behold ... what a great shot to win it.

Yes good for him!
The cross country venues are beautiful. us takes silver in the sprint relay, which is huge, and the Norwegian guy wins his tenth career gold medal.

The wife and I have discussed since the start.  The Italian Alps are beautiful and a wonderful backdrop to every event.

Why the men don't wear the same helmets with full face shields that the women wear is beyond me.

There's nothing stopping them. I imagine they want as little obstructing their vision as possible.

According to a former vendor of mine, who had a cup of coffee with 3 NHL teams and played a decade in the AHL, there is a reasonably significant difference in visibility, peripherally.  Hence why even though they wear a cage/full shield in juniors and obviously college, they drop to the half shield once they turn pro. Getting a stick or puck to face is infrequent enough to not outweigh the improved visibility/face feel.

He had daughters playing HS hockey at the time and said, in his opinion, the difference in speed of the game and not needing to keep your head on a swivel as much (due to no checking/hitting) made the difference in visibility less of a concern.

I know some chalk it up to the macho image of the NHL back to its pre-helmet history and I've seen some comments on misogyny/differing expectations of male vs female athletes on the difference in standards on helmets.  But I thought it was reasonable take/perspective from an intelligent guy who played Ivy League hockey and who was a middle aged parent with kids in the sport he cared deeply about, not just some aging "back in my day" jock

Seeing Canada's fans doing a Vikings SKOL-like chant and then Canada immediately giving up the game tying goal was pretty funny.
