Absolutely dreadful. We were fortunate to pull this one out.

connie

100% correct.  Given the things that had to go right for us to beat a team 2-5 in conference tonight, I'm letting it go.

The abysmal defense is about 100 times more the reason for the game being close than free throws smh

I'm going to enjoy every win this year regardless of how ugly it may be.

Yep..we got outscored by 10 at the FT line. That no "matta." Numerous missed front ends of 1 and 1.  Did you know if you make the front end you get another FT and thus increase FT attempts?  And I've been told FT attempts "matta."

Yet we still won. The game was close because we couldn't get stops. We could've went 9-30 and still won if we played a modicum of defense

Hey let's find something more to complain about.  My name is Panda.  And that is what I do.

And if only Dan Hurley was a good coach..how could Providence put up 98 on UCONN?  They also beat St John's and Creighton too decent teams.

In a thread meant to complain about something, I (rightfully) corrected the original poster.

We could've shot worse from the line and that still isn't the issue with this team.

We couldn't get stops tonight and that was the main reason the game was close.

You can make all the stops you want, still have to put the ball in the hoop.

I'm usually in camp FT no matta, but every miss tonight was significant. Shoot our average and we win in regulation. Shoot what PC did and it's not really in doubt. We overcame a lot to get that win, including poor foul shooting.

Providence's last five games they've scored 98 against Uconn, 93 against Creighton, 82 against Nova and 84 against X. They also scored 110 against Butler. They had 94 in regulation today. That's been typical for them lately. Unfortunately for them, they've also given up a crap ton of points.

The only guy on MU that plays a modicum of defense is Chase, and that ain't saying much.

Tre Norman plays good defense. Liability on the other end, but his defense was the reason he got run at the end of the game last night when Chase fouled out.

Great defense when he fouled on a three point shot one minute after he entered the game.

Shaka had no other choice but to play him, unless he went to Phillips or the walk ons.  Stevens was already out with five fouls.

And boy did we! Last night was our second most offensively efficient performance of the season. #defensematters

Good defenders have bad plays. I'm not a Norman fan, but he's good on that end of the floor.

Glad to see you back posting Brew. And for providing another view of Norman. Like many fans, I often do not appreciate good defensive players enough.

19-30 is not good.  James going 3-3 with the game on the line is impressive.  That kid is a gamer.  He should be involved in all end of game plays.

Defense sucks and I have been down on Owens all year but that steal at the end was great to see from him.

Hopefully this win gives the team more confidence the rest of the year.

Yup. While our poor defense contributed strongly to the game almost having been lost, the dreadful performance from the line was a killer that kept us from having a late lead in regulation.

Survived it only because NJ made those three at the end of regulation. Clutch!

He normally is, but I thought he was brutal on defense last night.  Consistently blown by off the dribble while he's trying to get into a guy 38 feet from the hoop, and fouling a 3 point shooter at a key moment.
