Damn.  A large amount of forfeited equity.   I doubt he will have to eat Ramen.

On the plus side for LIV, Anthony Kim qualified.

Nice middle finger to Reed and Phil. Seems like it only applies to Koepka, Rahm, Bryson, and Cam Smith.

Buried deep in the press releases was the idea that the powers that be are interested in what will make the tour better.  If they mean that, you have your answer.

Jay Monahan took a lot of heat when LIV first hit the scene. In retrospect, he handled this correctly. LIV was always going to burn out if the Tour held steady and played it cool.

Who's else is angling to return? Laughing at Bryson right now. Oh well!

Still insane to think what odds you would have had to have been given in order to bet in 2008, when Tiger won the US Open at 33 for his 14th major, that over the next 15+ years, Phil would win 3x as many majors as Tiger.  And if not for the 2019 miracle at Augusta and a major Phil choke at another US Open in 2013, it could very well have been 4-nil to Phil.

And also one of the most likable, gregarious, and fun loving guys to ever swing a club on tour.

DUIs are horrible and never excusable, but it's amusing to look at differences in the substance issues of a personality like Daly versus the substance issues of more cantankerous dickheads like Tiger and DJ.

And to Daly's credit, he's been sober for almost 20 years since the drunken Hooters incident in his early 40s (at the very least had no public issues with alcohol since) whereas Tiger is a 50 year old billionaire still flipping cars in the middle of the day.

Also reminds me of my favorite largely forgotten Daly anecdote...the year before Daly made the tour (and also won the PGA) a 23 year old, still prime Arkansas hick very alcoholic Daly, in his blond mulleted glory, went to Africa and in the span of 2 weeks won tournaments in South Africa and, even more hilarious, Eswatini (then still Swaziland).

Like Ryan Leaf, I admire Daly for taking ownership of his problems and not running from them. Unfortunately, Tiger has been coddled and protected his entire life, and has such a massive ego that he'll never do that.

A coworker was on a flight from Chicago to Winston-Salem about 20 years ago and got chatting to the woman in the seat next to him. Turns out she was John Dalys wife at the time. She kept buying him drinks the whole flight and introduced him to John who was waiting at security. My coworker said they talked about golf while waiting at the baggage claim and and he was just a nice guy.

Looking forward to seeing how Bryson tries to "sell" his time at LIV. You know he's going to big brain this at the upcoming majors with the Tour media.
