Ben Gold Post Game 12/30

This team needs to practice shooting and rebounding period.  3-point shots, free throws and lay ups. This is the worst shooting team in Marquette history. Hamilton and Norman should be benched. Only players who can score and rebound should play. Marquette has been a weak rebounding team under Shaka. When you can't shoot and don't rebound you lose period.

Shaka at the beginning of the year talking about how Caedin "earned his spot" and the last spot being up for grabs for Royce and Ben is just the icing on the cake. Caedin didn't earn a thing, and if he had a good camp to make them think that, he certainly isn't earning it now.

Talking about the fact that Ben as a Senior gets the demotion from the starting lineup while Caedin, maybe the worst player to ever wear the MU uniform, gets to hear his name called and his hometown announced in the starting lineup every game.

4 minutes is 4 minutes too much, but yet we are ok starting in a hole every game for whatever reason and throwing Caedin Hamilton at the center circle every night because he claps a lot for his teammates.

Yeah I don't get Shaka's infatuation with starting Hamilton at all. He must be the EGB record holder in practice. Just by principle alone it's disrespectful to bench your senior who is clearly heaps better.

I don't think any college team can win at a high level without the 3 point shot, but I do think MU's best path to being competitive is eliminating the 3pt attempts. I don't think MU is just in a 3pt shooting funk, I think we are who we are.

Not a single good 3-point shooter that plays meaningful minutes. Ben's taken the most on the team (70) and made 19. Wish he'd cut that in half and be around the basket more.

But one of 2 players to earn 14 of 14 starts...alongside a Senior that was preseason 1st Team All Big East.

I am a Ben Gold fan, of course he has limitations and is not a future NBA player but he has always given great effort and helped MU win many games.

I will say calling him a "kid" is disrespectful. He is 22 year old professional basketball player who might earn more than you. Are Wemby, Banchero, Holmgren, Sengun,  Dylan Harper,  Jalen Johnson,  Dereck Lively, etc. "kids"?

These "kids" fought the battle to be recognized as the professionals that they are and have been.

I'm positive he earns more than I do, but to me, as a 49-year-old, since he's still in college and representing our alma mater, he's still a kid. No disrespect meant. I called my then 27-year-old assistant "kid," and she didn't mind. In fact, she'd tease me right back about my age.

What don't you get about it? He should be playing 0 minutes. 0 seconds. Not starting every single game. This is a 20 loss team, because there was a decision made somewhere along the line that he was a starter caliber. They are only making it worse by continuing to believe he is a starter.

He was a -1 in a 40 point win earlier in the season. 😂

It was nice to see Gold take it to the hoop effectively last night. That said, I really do not understand why MU has him make a bee line to the 3pt line when a guard switches to cover him. Over his four years at MU, the offense has turned him into the equivalent of a 6'1" below average 3 pt shooter.

College kids are college kids; it's a colloquial term. My kids are in their upper 30s and my wife and I - who respect them very much - still call them kids. Professional athletes call rookies "kids" all the time.

Of all the things we can find to complain about, calling college students "kids" should rank 75,330,335th. Or lower.

As for Gold, he looked great last night. The kid needs to do that more often!
