Not counting Sheek Pearson and Ian Miletic in this ranking because they haven't played yet. Also, guessing on others who have played so little and the ones who left because there's no way of knowing how it would have worked out if they had stayed, here's a ranking of Shaka's high school recruits since taking the Marquette job:
1. Chase Ross, 2. Nigel James, 3. Michael Phillips, 4. David Joplin, 5. Adrian Stevens, 6. Josh Clark, 7. Royce Parham, 8. Ben Gold, 9. Zaide Lowery, 10. Sean Jones, 11. Damarius Owens, 12. Tre Norman, 13. Keeyan Itejere, 14. Caedin Hamilton, 15. Al Amadou, 16. Emarion Ellis.
I'm sure most would rank Phillips and Clark lower but I just have a feeling about their upsides. The one I hope ends up being the most underrated on this list is Owens, because he flashed so much potetnial last year. ... Ellis is on the roster at Graceland University, an NAIA school in Lamoni, Iowa. Hasn't appeared in any games yet. Not sure if he is injured and/or redshirting. He spent a year at Bradley, where he averaged about two points a game, and a year at Nicholls State, where he averaged 4 ppg. ... Itejere is at his third school, having spent two years at Northern Kentucky and is at Rhode Island this year. Averaging about 8 points, 5 rebounds, shooting .833, blocking a shot per game. Had similar stats at Northern Kentucky, where he blocked 1.5 shots per game. Amadou averaging 1.5 and 1 in limited action for St. Joseph.

Ranking Michael Phillips ahead of David Joplin is wild.

I would not know how to rank them all, other than Chase being lead dog .   The jury is out on most of Shaka's recruits.    Doing what Shaka does, he has to be right 75% of the time on recruits.    That is not so easy to do.   But not impossible either.

This is insane. Phillips and James ahead of Joplin and Clark ahead of Parham, Gold and Lowery?

This is just you thinking the unknown is better than the known.

With 15 scholarships, 50% would seem sufficient, and reasonable.

7- or 8-man rotation, and just hope no one ever gets injured?

If 50% are hits, then at least a couple more can fill in minutes.  It's not like a 7.5 man rotation is that uncommon, or undesirable.

JoanofArcMascot

A 67% hit rate would translate to 10 guys at a time, which is sufficient.

Markusquette

What even is this list...and the Joplin disrespect, not that it's even fair to compare a grad to a current 1st year player

BLWarrior91

The only co tributes thus far have been Jop, Chase, Ben, Sean, Zaide, Royce, NJ, and Stevens.

Best of the bunch is Jop, Chase, and NJ.

Ben and Royce have their moments.  Stevens has shown some flashes.

Zaide disappears for long stretches.

Not sure how this staff developed O-Max, Kolek, and Oso into NBA players.  What happened to "growth?"

Basically ran a 7.5-man rotation last year and our guys were cooked by February.

You might as well have ranked the redshirts given how your rankings fell.

So did Florida (shrug)

Florida last year had 10 players average double-digit minutes per game.
MU had 7.

I'm guessing they never had 10 players play 10+ min per game (injuries beginning/end of the year skew stats).  A couple cases with 9, most with 8.

Anyhow, the point isn't Florida, it's that it only takes ~8 good players to make a good team (sometimes a few less than that).  So, if Shaka can hit on about 50% of his 15 scholarships, Marquette can be a good team.  The original 75% number would be a crazy hit rate, I doubt any college coach hits that.

Seems reasonable. Right now, MU is about halfway there. It's just that as many as 2 or 3 of the current top 4 would be in the bottom 4 of the rotation on a competitive 8-9 deep team.

Galway Eagle

I don't think the issue is a "hit" rate the issue is more of a not miss. There's one ball, not everyone's going to be an all American. We need more guys who can be trusted to perform well and efficiently. Chase could lead a team of C & B players. But we've got a couple B players and a ton of F & D players.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!
