Not an alumni but back in 1986 when Rick left MU to go to the Bucks, MU offered the job to Arkansas Little Rock head coach Mike Newell. They had just upset Notre Dame in the NCAA tourney and he was the "hot" young coach. He turned down MU so they went to their next best candidate Bob Dukiet and the rest is history!
