I'm confused, are we playing there in 2027?

QuoteArkansas' involvement in the tournament was discovered through a Freedom of Information Act request. Neither the program nor the Maui Invitational have officially announced the team's involvement. The contract was finalized earlier this month.

Seems flimsy at best.  Just let the chips fall as they may.  I'm sure we will be back at some point.

I'm not sure how interested we really are in these tournaments any longer.

It's been the premier early season tournament for a long time and it's usally been a blast. Dan Hurley didn't enjoy it last year and now the "feel" is a ton teams and coaches aren't interested anymore?

It's a money loser for schools

What Rico said, but also in the past while you lost money going out there the thought was the exposure was worth it. This year, Marquette is prioritizing neutral court games because they come out ahead financially and have more control over timing and location.

Further, with the advent of NIL we're seeing events like the Players' Era with money for the teams involved attached to it. How sustainable that is long-term remains to be seen, but they're clearly trying to turn it into a veritable college basketball Champions' League.

I expect the destination type MTEs to wither over time. It's unfortunate, because it's a great part of the sport, but at this point feels inevitable because of NIL and the constant profit mindset pervading collegiate sports.

I missed the Great Alaska Shootout. Some great games.

I thought folks were saying Marquette would still be open to going to the big ones, such as Maui. But I certainly could be mistaken.
