Normally, that would be a cool thing.

But then I see Kelvin Sampson, Scott Drew, Todd Golden and Tom Izzo on the list and I'm like...ewwww

Sampson texted recruits. The others, yeah.

Painter being the top pick by a long shot makes sense. He is a class act.

MU82

Nice. Shaka's exactly the kind of coach I'd want my son or grandson to play for.

Given that the question is specifically about playing 4 years for one coach, Shaka and Painter should be 1-2 in some order because they aren't looking to bring in 4, 6, 8 transfers every year.

You missed the allegations that he stalked and sent dick pics to undergrads? Or the allegation that one of his assistants sexually assaulted another employee?

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

I knew loosely that there were some stories around weird behavior but didn't know more than that.

Crazy behavior. Feels like a clear fireable offense

What's wrong with Sampson?

No other Big East coaches on that list.   The GAP widens.

He called recruits too much. Oh no!

He recruited a player who backed out of a verbal commitment elsewhere. The horror!

Do you know how laughable those look 20+ years later?

He told the recruits that what he was doing was impermissible and to lie to NCAA investigators if contacted. No big deal, right? I mean, at least Pearl just told his assistants to lie after a kid who was told he couldn't go to Pearl's house showed up anyway.

I don't think that coaches should be defined by relatively harmless incidents that occurred before current recruits were even born. More importantly, its clear that recruits and their families don't seem to give a rip either.  What they care about is helping them improve as a player, getting paid, and getting a degree. Sampson has shown the ability to do those things.

that he would instruct high school kids to lie to cover up what he told them was impermissible conduct he was engaged in shows his character and the kind of lessons he'll teach kids. Unfortunately for him, one of the recruits was willing to tell the truth and out him.

Sampson also turned a blind eye to rampant drug use and multiple failed drug tests among his players at IU (all but two had positive tests - DJ White and Eric Gordon). And yet Izzo yelling at his players while never committing a Level I or II violation is somehow worse than that.

I would want my son to play for hologram AI Bobby Knight.

Uh...Izzo has other skeletons in his closet.

Anyway, you seem to think I am absolving Sampson for all his past sins. I most certainly am not. I am saying his violations were relatively minor and happened a long time ago.  It seems like he has learned from them and has run a successful program at Houston since then. I can most definitely see why coaches would want their kids to play for him.

I'm certain those are the only two college basketball players who were smoking marijuana.

A hologram AI of Bobby is a great idea! I think you should not only form a committee to make this happen, but you should chair it also.
