A girl who was shot at Annunciation is back at school this week - Glory be to God! Went to school with her Aunt years ago.

Our church, "in the heart of South Minneapolis" is about 1.5 miles north of Annunciation and 1 mile west on 38th Street from 38th & Chicago aka George Floyd spot. Tomorrow, we have "Oktoberfiesta" (congregation is now predominately spanish-speaking)... years ago when the school was in operation in its old form, Octoberfest was a huge deal every year -- games, beer garden, pull tabs, music, etc. They are trying to bring it back somewhat this year -- I'm excited to get access to the old school building and run around the halls.. will bring back a lot of K-8 memories.

The sad thing is what keeps popping into my mind -- I feel like I need to be on the lookout for any bad actors.. any crazies that would attack an event like this. Such a horrible thought, but I can't shake it. Not that I'll be trembling when I get there, but I will be a little extra mindful of my surroundings and hopefully ready to protect should anything happen.

I'm very much down on my city and the state as a whole, but hopefully tomorrow will be a great experience and help remind me of how great the city can be. #PrayersUp

Minneapolis/St. Paul is a great metro.  Was fortunate to work 11 years there.  Worked across from the VA off of Hiawatha and Crosstown.  Also worked near Minnehaha and Franklin.  Will keep you in my prayers.

JB, I used to do table top planning sessions with our local gendarmes.  And, I did multiple mass casualty drills with local kids acting as victims for extra credit.  Sometimes, as we were going down school hallways in the summers, they would randomly and unexpectedly start shooting off blanks to get your attention and gauge your reactions.  I have been 50 yards away during exchanges of gunfire.   I have been the first on the scene of incidents involving multiple shooting victims, as well as other mass casualty incidents.

They suck.  I mourn the victims.

Keep your soul at peace.  Make sure you are focused more on how you live instead of how you might die.

Or, to borrow from Andy Dufresne in Shawshank, you can get busy living, or you can get busy dying.

Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

That was nice of God to heal her, but it was kind of dickish to let the other kids die.

MU82, from you past posts about family in Israel, are you Jewish?
All I can say is I am a sinner saved by Grace.
What do you embrace?

Guys, a kid survived bring shot in school. That's a perfectly acceptable time to thank whatever higher power you do or don't believe in. Not a time for snark about peoples religious beliefs

I was raised Jewish. Judaism is unique in that many people - including many Jews - consider it as much a race as it is a religion. So, depending on the tenor of a discussion, and/or who the discussion is with, I might respond that I'm Jewish, or that I was brought up Jewish, or that my family is Jewish.

But I am an atheist, as I do not believe in the existence of any deity or higher power. I am not the least bit ashamed of it, and I will answer "atheist" when asked directly what my religion is - as long as I don't think it will start a dopey fight.

I "embrace" doing the right thing simply because it's the right thing to do, and not because a deity might approve or disapprove and not because heaven is a supposed reward. I embrace treating others, especially those less fortunate than I am, with compassion and empathy and respect. I embrace that none of us is perfect, certainly not me, but I try to be a good person and to make sound decisions. I embrace deep love for my family and friends. Among other things. In my view, none of those things require the presence of or belief in a deity.

You're right. NCMU asked me a direct question, so I answered it. But I shouldn't have been snarky earlier in the thread.
