I mean, to be fair, Ed Manning was a long time former pro and played for Larry Brown in the ABA for 4 or 5 years, and then continued with him as an assistant in the NBA after Brown moved.  Obviously, being Danny's father had a lot to do with it, but he wasn't just hiring a no name truck driver that had a talented son.

You're not wrong. But a penalty simply isn't going to be called there. Period.

I'm trying to recall that in my way too many decades of watching pro and college football I have EVER seen P.I. called on a Hail Mary play, and I'm coming up with nada. And on a pretty high percentage of those plays, something akin to what happened last night occurred.

Yeah.  And the "record in bowl games" outside of the CFP is pretty meaningless.  Most teams are seeing what they have with returning underclassmen, and will hit the portal based on how those players looked.  Nobody is looking at it as a must win.
