Quote from: JWags85 on December 31, 2025, 08:34:33 PMOhio State comes out looking completely flustered and out of sorts. Sayin looks like a shaken freshman and his OL is doing nothing for him.  On the bright side for the OSU faithful, they have the king of late game clock mismanagement and choking on the other sideline

Enjoyed watching Ohio lose.

They don't even deserve the State, let alone the The.

But they do deserve the Ohio.

Yeah, because The U is so much more appealing. Especially with those class acts Irvin and Lewis on the sideline making sure they get noticed.

Yes. I guess I just have tOSU fatigue.

That's certainly understandable.  Both teams/programs nauseate me.

I wondered which fan base had the smaller proportion of fans who actually took a college class, let alone has set foot in a classroom for either school. I've met two Miami grads in my life.

I lived down there for 8 years and there are plenty of Miami grads. That said, when they played at the Orange Bowl, the vast majority of the people around the stadium were crapheads looking to make trouble. Inside the stadium was better, but still sketchy. And I probably went to ~15 games there. No idea what the crowd is like where they play now.

All that said, I used to hate Miami with a burning passion (I grew up a Nebraska fan) but think I prefer them to OSU now.  Funny how those feeling change over time.

We're at the point now where it can't be a coincidence that every bye team has lost in the expanded CFP. The schedule really needs to be addressed.

The U still has some residual goodwill for me from endorsing their - unique - identity in the late 80s and beyond. I know they're no different than any other program now, but that's still enough brand equity for me to casually root for them in otherwise neutral games.

1 for 6 and it took a team thats going to have their 4th loss of the season to do it.

It's time the question is asked. Can Indiana beat the Browns?

Cignetti should be mentioned for NFL jobs. Like the Raiders, if they love Mendoza, it'd make sense (to me) to hire Cignetti. I think he'd be an outstanding NFL head coach.

I mentioned this a month or two ago, but if I'm the Bills and I move on from McDermott, Cignetti would be my first call.

Not the Saban is on Cignetti's level, but he struggled in the NFL.  ;)

Actually,  I think he'd succeed at any level.

Last year the higher seeds were Arizona State, Boise State, Oregon (who had to play the best team in the country in their first game), and Georgia. Two of those teams were clearly not two of the four best teams in the country and lost to the better teams, even though they were seeded lower. And one of the other two teams was a top 4 team, but lost to the best team in the country. Georgia was probably better than Notre Dame but did lose.

This year you're (probably) going to have two higher seeded teams win. Ohio State is better than Miami, but Oregon was better than Texas Tech.

With certain conference champions getting guaranteed seeds last year, the seeding was a complete mess. If they seed things correctly, then maybe you have second round games also be home games to give the higher seeds a bigger advantage. But let's be honest, 6 of the 8 quarterfinal winners over this year and last year were the better team, and Notre Dame/Georgia last year is at least debatable. The only team that was definitely better that took a loss was Ohio State this year against Miami.

I have a good friend here in St Pete who is alum of the U and would have actually went there for law school as well but instead attended law school in California to be with his now wife.  We've talked about how the school and its reputation, from both college football and Miami culture in general, is pretty detached from the academic reputation.  Its slipped a bit, but it was pretty regularly a top 50 school nationally for the last 20+ years.  The two other grads I know are both really bright.  One didn't get in out of HS, despite being a very good student, and turned down admission to a couple very good schools to go get a 4.0 at USF and transfer in after her freshman year.  The other was ready to go to UNC but Miami offered him a very good scholarship and that was enough to outweigh the difference.

But most of the people who really EMBRACE Miami Hurricane football have no affiliation to the university and just love the residual aura of the early 90s Hurricanes.  Playing 25 miles away from campus doesn't help either.

Or not about 2 of the top 4 seeds winning this year.

The Ole Miss QB played three years of D2?  Wow.
