Quote from: Scoop Snoop on October 19, 2025, 01:13:53 PMYou just HAD to include Rick Mount's dagger in your list, didn't you?  ;D  I was there. The bus ride back to Milwaukee was very quiet.

I was going to ask Tower for his home address so that I could send him the prize for best post on this subject to him, but I'm going to award it to you instead. It's an old set of rabbit ears antennas with some of the original aluminum foil still attached. DM me your address and the prize will arrive at your doorstep.

I remember being up in our attic as siblings set up in line to pass on messages telling me when my turning the antenna around gave the best picture.  ;D  Good 'ole days my ass!
Well, I am rather partial to my smart TVs and iPad and iPhone.  So I'll let you keep those rabbit ears and the crucnched up foil for your personal posterity. I'd rather forget about those parts of the experience.

A name from the past. Was anchor at Ch 12 from '79 to '05. Been retired for 20 years now.

I would have thought he was dead by now.

Umm...of course! There is a dead zone around broadcasting towers because the signal would need to be almost vertical for it to be received.

Still alive apparently. His wiki page would indicate he just turned 85.

Ooo. He looked older than he was I guess.

Quote from: tower912 on October 19, 2025, 10:55:58 AMI also remember only seeing 3-4 televised games per season.  I also remember watching a 12 inch black and white TV with an antenna.

Yep.  My first color TV broadcast was a Vikings  vs Packers game.  Remember it well.

Mine was the network premiere of Yellow Submarine. I was 12 years old and had been on a camping trip. I got home to find that my parents had finally bought a color TV, and that incredibly colorful movie helped celebrate the purchase.

That's what fear will do to a guy-always worrying about being pummeled with snowballs by a Marquette student (or were they ice balls? Fess up!).

It was during the finals week blizzard of '87. Heavy wet snow walking back from breakfast somewhere.

I'm pretty sure it was the first snow day in over a decade.

Quote from: Nukem2 on October 19, 2025, 12:40:45 PMRemember seeing Gail Goodrich and Bill Bradley in (different) NCAA games in the mid-1960s in glorious black and white. And the Texas Western and Loyola NCAA runs in the 60s.   Also, the Elvin Hayes vs. Lew Alcindor game in the Astrodome.  Also, Rick Mount with his overtime  dagger to MU in the NCAAs in the later 60s. More memorable games, which were far and few between and mostly NCAA Final 4s in the 60s. The feeds weren't so great in those days as well leaving a rather fuzzy picture even with a good antenna setup.

I was there for that heart breaker.

Yeah, I don't remember a single snow day during my 4 years.

Back then, we were tough. We walked to and from class every day, uphill both ways, through 10 feet of snow, wearing only Chucks on our feet.

Jerry Taff a name from the past that reminds me of a couple things. One the girl I was dating just before my wife said to me I looked like Jerry Taff when I laid on my side on her couch. I do not lay on my side anymore. 2nd Jerry Taff spoke to me through the television. Real Wolf Blitzer Tom Cruise Mission Impossible Stuff. I spoke with my Mom the next day she said your Dad is just messing with you do not worry about it. If you knew my Dad you knew this was possible no pun intended.

The only time I can remember when classes were suspended was a 3 day stretch when it was -20 degrees and 15 mile/hr. winds.

Not to be confused with Chicago ABC-7 meteorologist Jerry Taft, who passed away in 2020. UW grad. Was a good guy and a decent golfer.
