Trying what?

Quote from: MU90620 on April 14, 2025, 09:10:21 AMI actually think it's more beneficial to go the red shirt route. First, you will probably make more money as a redshirt at a high major than a contributor at a low major. Second, by redshirting you are creating a 5th year (for now, possible 6th in the future)of income potential at a point in your career where you will be far more valuable than you are as a freshman.

I'd never thought about this, but that is really smart.

Except under the proposed rules, you can only get five years. A redshirt doesn't give you a sixth I believe.

Yeah, but 5 > 4.  Especially, if you're not NBA bound that's 20% more earnings.

Under the propsed rules, everyone gets five years and a redshirt doesnt add to it.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Only if you bake in an assumption that earnings are the same everywhere.

Yeah.  Could be more or less.  Anything is better than zero though.  Since we're being pedantic.

Not sure what's pedantic about that.
The argument that was presented is that a player like Miletic is better off spending five years at MU to get five years of earnings, as opposed to going elsewhere for four years. How much he may earn over those four years elsewhere seems a pretty essential factor in the argument, no?

So a redshirt year eats 1 year of eligibility?

Its a proposal that hasn't been approved yet. Essentially redshirting wouldnt exist anymore except for medical purposes.

Cool. Stevens moves in next weekend.

So when do summer classes start at MU? Here in New Jersey Most High Schools will not finish until the third week in June. So if MU had a Jersey public school recruit they would miss out on almost a month at MU.

File that away and don't recruit New Jersey.

I think Miletic graduated early, or is doing things remotely, because Rolling Meadows is still in school.

Clipped a few of his highlights in the post. He is the player in this class that I am most intrigued by. Very diverse offensive game with some length to possibly have some impact defensively (which is obviously how he would get on the floor as a Freshman for Shaka).

Quote from: MU82 on April 14, 2025, 03:27:40 PMI don't know about "bidding war," but Shaka hasn't lost a single player he wanted to retain. One would think that Kolek, Oso, Ross and especially Kam would have had some very good money-making options elsewhere, but they chose to stay at Marquette.

Of course, maybe like Koufax and Drysdale, they did it out of the goodness of their hearts. Probably even signed autographs!

I assume this should be in teal. Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale invented for baseball the concept of acting in concert. They made ole whalebelly, Walter O'Malley, the owner of the Dodgers, scream as he signed their 1966 contracts  ;D .

You are responding to a month-old post that was my sarcastic response to a Scooper who said Koufax and Drysdale thought only about others, not themselves. Which, as you repeated here, was an absurd claim.

Reminds me of some of the highlights we saw of Dawson before he came to Milwaukee.
