Tournament caliber as in losing first round to a higher seed?   Go Marquette!!!  We should hang a banner that says "tournament caliber" for this season.

The biggest difference between the 2 teams was NM had an inside presence. Huge advantage.

Most good teams do. We had none.

It became easier and easier to defend our offense because all teams had to do was seal off the paint. Layups became harder and harder throughout the year. Which gets me to midrange  jump shots but we all know you can't bring that up with the extreme viewpoints of all mid range jump shots are evil.

My biggest concern is Shaka is too stubborn.

This was a choice.
Shaka could have tried to find proven size in the portal and try to make a run with a solid trio of seniors, led by a legit all-American candidate.
Instead, he chose to give a scholie to redshirt and cross his fingers with Gold and Hamilton.
This was a choice.

This team gave us false hope early on. Jop and Stevie are great 5/6 players. They were asked to be 2/3. Kam is a great off guard. He was asked to be a lead guard. The Freshman - Juniors showed glimpses of being solid role players. They failed to show much more than glimpses or of the potential to be more.

All in all, this year is ended about how I expected it would before it started.

For now, disappointed as I may be, I'll appreciate the last 4 years the seniors gave us. Amazing representatives of the school. I'm proud for them to be fellow alumni. But from a basketball sense, we have a lot of digging to do, because we should be better.

What does that say about his decision when Hamilton provided zero production for this team.

We collapsed down the stretch of the season, and down the stretch of the game. Not ideal.
They look miles better than us

Quote from: tower912 on March 21, 2025, 08:46:38 PMHe was an all American doing what he did.

The issue wasn't so much Kam playing the PG but that MU didn't have a scoring threat at the 2 or 3. There was a huge drop off at the shooting guard spot when Kam moved to PG.

Quote from: GB Warrior on March 21, 2025, 08:55:19 PMJop fought like he cared. Will remember this game for him. I feel worse for everyone having had to suffer through this version of Stevie. Would have rather had Sean or Tre for 40 minutes than whatever this was. Maybe his rim production was always going to regress. Maybe it was really injuries. But if he's not going to make excuses for costing this team down the stretch, there's no reason for us to do it for him. Players play.

FWIW, I heard from someone at the Marquette Circles networking event at the BET last week that Stevie has been playing through some injuries for some time now.

Quote from: Elonsmusk on March 21, 2025, 08:51:30 PMFeel bad for Stevie to go out on a low note. Yet almost wonder if he is so banged up, and perhaps even slightly concussed from that massive collision in Big East tourney - kind of like Oso last year.

Also unfortunate Kam didn't have a great game either. Kudos to Jop for balling out.

Thankfully I didn't have to watch the 2nd half due to dinner reservations

I watched some early season highlights of Stevie the other day. He was bouncy as hell. He's definitely a much different player right now. I think the injuries were a huge factor.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Many of us talked about having a big body that can grab boards. Rebounding was the teams weakness among other things.

How many times did MU drive 1 on 3 trying to bait a foul?

You're certainly not wrong.  We are very beatable.  That said, is there any doubt that we were the better team on the court today?

I think those two teams are very evenly matched.

Good teams, not great. Each team relies heavily on an All American.

And with that I will ban myself.  Good luck next year against papa Patino. Seriously, I'm rooting for you guys.  This is, by far, the best board I've trolled this year.

Unfortunately Shaka is a high cost placeholder.  Never gonna win anything of significance with him.

Would of liked to see Rim
Protection and Dunks by Josh Clark and Point guard play by Sean Jones. And kam shooting more with Marquette scoring in the 80s and contest passes.  The team accessible to fans and it is not Rocket Science. Could of taken a loss in the 80s but this is inexcusable ugh

Crappy way to end the season, but it was a generally fun season (scoop, less so).

Love this group of seniors. They set the culture. Lots of message board whining won't change that.

Long offseason ahead. Looking forward to a lot of growth from the remaining roster. I have an insane amount of optimism about what next year's team can do from a talent perspective.

See y'all on the other side.
