For his sake, I would just say so. Fck the 'no excuses' bullsh!t. The alternative is he blew several games down the stretch, including this one.

Plenty of talent. Very poorly coached team.

Quote from: Markusquette on March 21, 2025, 08:36:19 PMPoor Joplin. Nobody else showed up. This game is a perfect example of how poorly MU played over the last few months.

5-8 in their last 13 games, with Ws over mighty Providence, Seton Hall and Georgetown. This was a bubble team from the start. Next year may be interesting. If Shaka bails, I wouldn't blame him.

Bon voyage to the seniors. I enjoyed watching them play.

Hard to have a team defer so much to seniors and have Kam and Stevie not show up tonight. Oh well, crap happens. MU needs to revisit the offensive and defensive philosophies. The weak rebounding and the weak finishes at the hoop need to end. Some of that is personnel. The offense needs to get more players involved.

On to next year.

I'm with Shaka 100% but this season is on him.

- team got worse as the season went along
- recruiting has been subpar 2 years in a row
- player development is lacking. This was a hallmark of early years but Gold and Chase took steps back as year went along. No one from bench stood up.
- we need a rebounding presence. Shaka needs to change his approach

Next year looks to be a rough one. If we are not going to use transfer portal, need to identify and develop talent. This is the year where Dhaka's ability to do this is being questioned.

66 points when we averaged 82 when we won. Shaka is an awesome coach who had a bad game.

Plenty of talent, just very poorly coached on offense.

Hey look, another reasonable post in a topic full of outlandish nonsense.

I do think they need more size. I don't even think it needs to be someone who brings much offensively. A rim-protector and rebounder would be fine with me.

Crean did not seclude the team when went to the Final Four.  Shaka seclude the team in Cleveland. Ugh.

NotAnAlum

The problem was the offense.  And the problem as been the offense since early in January.  Deflections good to strive for.  EGBs fine too.  But you need an offense that can score points.  Marquette teams in the past would having gotten the lead would have pushed the advantage.  But everything comes so hard and every point is a struggle.
Some things got to change for next year.  Just counting on everyone currently on the team improving at little will be enough for a middle of the pack BE finish and a bubble team if we're lucky. The college basketball world has changed.  Either adapt or don't expect to be competitive with those that do.

Quote from: ATL MU Warrior on March 21, 2025, 08:38:26 PMWith the season reaching a disappointing conclusion, I would like to shout out Jop as the one guy that played extremely well tonight. He's received a ton of abuse here, but he showed up tonight. Well done.

When we lose always one of the players get abused. Gold, tonight Stevie, to some extant Kam. At least we're in the tournament, but Shaka has to get some big strong guys that can rebound and have velcro hands.

These past few season have been fun, way more fun than the Wojo years.

Actually the talent on the team has been somewhat overrated, IMO. Kam is great on offense but he's a poor defender. His FT shooting was poor.  Stevie couldn't score and his defense fell off at the end of the season. Jop had a great scoring game tonight but couldn't be relied on to score efficiently more than once every handful of games and he turned the ball over way too much. None of them was very athletic. Gold was not a reliable shooter and couldn't post up and Chase didn't take the step up people were expecting. This was a good team. They met but didn't come close to exceeding expectations.

That unfortunately is the same conclusion I have drawn.

I know who recruited them. But I have realized that four straight tournament appearances is a good thing, and I expect to grow from here. If my faith is misplaced, I will change my mind. But there is no reason for me to do so now.

I've seen nothing to indicate that Ross and Gold can be anything other than role players. Need a bench player or freshmen to take over in 25-26.

where would Shaka bail to? He recruited the team so assuming he's happy with what's he's got.

Right. I mean, you think he's going to Iowa or Minnesota or something?
