We need a badass/enforcer.  I'm sick of getting pushed around by more physical teams.  If nothing else he can set heavy screens and provide some overall toughness.  I think it's important to find someone who can rebound and lay some heavy lumber when needed.  Preferably a guy 265 lbs, mobile, cut, and with good hands.

WellsstreetWanderer

You mean like a Big East prototypical player?

CountryRoads

Rebounding, mobile, good hands? That'll be $2 million. Have a great day.

wadesworld

I have a suggestion for Muggsy. Maybe consolidate some ideas into single threads. Not every sentence that pops into your head needs its own thread.

Someone WsW.  I'm just thinking out loud. Ideally, it should be someone in the mold of Maluach on Duke.

I would love a litter pick big as well. If only Shaka wanted that I'm sure we'd have it on the roster.

Sorry.

How good a recruiter is Shaka?  Clark,  Amadou, Hamilton barely were recruited by top 50 programs.  Norman was was just bad evaluation, that happens.  His style of not recruiting kids with a mid range jump shot is ridiculous.  Even UWM had a good player with a midrange shot.  If your style is shooting 3's then recruit kids that can shoot, hopefully they will have some next year!

Amazing that a down year for a guy who can't recruit and is clueless is a 6 or 7 seed.

1 project big on a roster is fine, but 3 is malpractice. That's a huge mistake in roster construction.

Wojo was a good recruiter. Maybe a hot take, but his return to college hoops might go a lot better than people around here would think.

There are not very skilled, big MFs all over. crap I just watched that Stillwell dude grab 13 boards the other night for UWM.

They don't need a star. But they need someone. And I don't know if they can afford to wait for Al/Caedin/Clark.

And they actually ran better offense 4 out as opposed to 5. If the guy can rebound and be a roll man it'll fit fine in the offense.

PointWarrior

All they money they saved on milkshakes this year they can pay a big next year.

That Shaka hasn't already signed your grandson proves that he's the worst recruiter in the country. Given his horsesh!t results at Marquette so far, I can't believe he still has a job.

Quote from: CountryRoads on March 08, 2025, 03:01:10 PMWojo was a good recruiter. Maybe a hot take, but his return to college hoops might go a lot better than people around here would think.

Wojo wasn't that good of a recruiter because he never had a vision of how he wanted to play. As a result, his recruiting was random. By contrast, it's pretty clear that Shaka looks for certain attributes that will fit how he wants to play. Wojo also was just a poor coach, as evidenced by the perennially bad defense. There's a reason Coach K wanted to get him out of the Duke successor discussion and the hiring of Scheyer proved it had nothing to do with getting HC experience.

MuggsyB

One of our biggest problems, and I've been saying this all season is moving the rock once we've punched the paint.  Kam has generally done a good job with this, but Stevie, Chase, and Jop really have issues with this skill set.  And they should frankly be much better than they are as experienced players.  I mean it's essentially straight downhill driving without any clue where the help is coming or what they actually want to do other than get all the way to the hoop.  Drives me freaking crazy because it's basketball 101.

I respect that take. He got some ballers here (including some we still have) but we looked different every year. I don't believe your last sentence though. I think the plan was for Wojo to go get some experience and then come home to Duke when K retired. The optics just were too bad to hire a coach that was fired though. Better to go with the unknown I guess.

willie warrior

I also have some suggestions for Shaka
1. Recruit some down low bangers
2. Recruit some consistent 3 point shooters--several
3. Recruit guys that can shoot 80% plus on FTs
4. Start improving the team to justify your big salary.
5. Play better in March
6. Use the portal to improve your roster. Lots of other coaches are, including Slick Rick.

And maybe find another source of joy in your life besides Marquette basketball. If you can't handle regular season losses, find a hobby.

Im old enough to remember when some people thought Ed Morrow was the answer to all our " we need an enforcer " problems.........

Although we will always have that block on Ethan Happ to keep.us warm at night........god bless you Ed.....

I think you should make the suggestion to Shaka.

If Shaka truly believed in constant learning and growth he would hold town halls to offer fans the opportunity to share their recommendations.
