You could be right but I don't remember any terrible games other than the 2 vs SJU. Memory could be faulty though.

National Marquette Day hosting UConn our free throw shooting was horrendous.

You're right. That was the 2nd game. SJU wasn't actually too bad. Jop missing 3 is just burned into my brain.

Quote from: Viper on March 08, 2025, 03:25:30 PMFT's? They matter?

In the second half,I believe, StJ was at the charity stripe and the announcer stated that Putino emphasizes making free throws. I guess he thinks they do matter

tower912

Actually, it was about Pitino wanting his team to shoot them better, as they are <70% as a team for the season.

You mean we can coach our players to improve a facet of their game midseason? That runs counter to the past decade of Marquette basketball

Quote from: BM1090 on March 08, 2025, 03:51:45 PMReally not sure what point you're trying to make. Some of the guys who hit the beach on Iwo Jima tripped and fell a bunch. Should we rip them too?

College sports is about winning but it's also about growth. Some of you are too caught up in the former to appreciate the latter.

They're not kids anymore. Let's not overstate the challenge of dealing with some criticism and adversity.

wadesworld

Pitino is such a great coach he emphasizes making free throws hey? Interestingly his team does it at a worse clip than Shaka's team does, and not by an insignificant margin.

That's all you got?

GoFastAndWin

We lost because St John's defenders are long and athletic and in the instances where a primary SJ defender got beat off the dribble, the help was outstanding, and sometimes even the initial SJ defender used his quickness to close back in to thwart the MU shot attempt or get a hand on a pass. They recover on D better than anyone I've seen this year. Extremely well-coached team, just like Marquette in that regard.

JakeBarnes

I think we lost because America no longer values community, only self.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

You clearly still don't understand. It's getting pretty embarrassing for you at this point.

What more does anyone need? Shaka at first was very concerned that some anonymous interwebs poster was critical of him. He's relieved to know that you actually "like" him.

St. John's is better coached and the guy is pure sleaze
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

The Sultan

Yes willie...Rick Pitino is a great coach. He's been at a great level for 40 years. His teams always play really hard. The list of coaches better than him in college basketball is very, very short.

We scored less points than they did when time ran out.
