Quote from: IL Warrior on March 08, 2025, 02:24:57 PMI honestly don't understand how anyone can be optimistic about this team. No wins against tournament-caliber teams in 2 months. That was a home game against a team projected as a 9 seed. The last time they beat a tournament team away from home was November. A terrible bottom half of the conference propped up their record. If they were in the SEC, I honestly believe they would be about 4-14, maybe worse.

Because we're not getting rolled. We're 1-2 plays away. Just need to get one whether it's X Thursday or the first ncaa tournament game to build the confidence back.

They could lose their next two. But if they win one, it's not hard to picture how they'd get hot. They are really close.

I still see that if this team is shooting well it can play with anyone.

When did they last shoot well against a top team?

I'm not sure I expected effort to be the difference today.  It's not that MU didn't try but they got beat to 50/50 balls, rebounds, etc.  I don't understand the FT's.  It baffles my mind.  The open 3's are one thing but the FT's is inexcusable.

I'm totally fine losing to Xavier on Thursday afternoon. I don't see much upside in MU exerting itself in NYC. Their seed line is probably 7-8, beating Xavier most likely doesn't change anything.

I'd rather see them rest up, take a breather this week.

Owens did not play due to illness.

From a physical standpoint I agree with you. But this team needs to close a game out to remember they can. I hope they do Thursday and then might as well try to win the damn thing. I'd take momentum and memories

Would have won if Stevie missed the game due to illness

Mostly everyone on this thread needs to get a life. Do you want to live in the past (WOJO) or deal with our promising future in Shaka. Did the team take a tough loss today, yeah but that's sports. We live to fight another day. Onto Xavier and let's win Thursday. I'm proud of having a black head coach of our basketball program leading our young "Warriors" as positive role models in the classroom, on the court, and in the community. Trust me.....we could do a LOT worse. I'm betting my alma mater will do well despite the doubters.

No the are more than a smidgen away.

Yeah that will do it. Lose because it doesn't matter

Weird because they lost on a buzzer beater

Man, yall like to whine. It's like wojo years board all over.

They didn't win. They played pretty decent past 2 games. Missed some execution things and some really rough bounces that didn't go their way.

Tranquilo.

I totally disagree.  This team doesn't need rest, they need wins over good teams, confidence, and momentum.  Who is fine limping into the tournament with 3 straight losses?  That's crazy.

It sucked going to that Xavier home game and walking out a loser. I'd love nothing more than to get payback and end their season Thursday. I want to see Freemantle in tears as he realizes it's over. I'm sure the guys would love another shot at some of these other teams as well.

Crazy bizarre ending.
Not down on this team.
I appreciate their tremendous effort.

Sure, I'd rather they give it their absolute all in semi-exhibition games this week, instead of the week after when it counts. Your post totally changed my mind.

Quote from: tower912 on March 08, 2025, 01:35:38 PM1.  That was fun.  Two really good teams beating each other up.
2. Thank you, seniors.
3. SJU just loves to play bully ball.  And they are good at it.  One quick whistle away from tournament disaster.
4.  Opportunities abounded. Left some out there.
5.  Some were seized.  Kam, Ben, Joplin.
6.  The rebounding margin was not nearly as bad as it seemed.
7.  MU returnees, more time in the weight room.  SJU just goes through people.  It paid off at the end of regulation and in OT.
8. Kam's ankle was rolling as he got pushed.  Chase rolled his ankle on the landing.
9. I remain optimistic about this team.
Rest up, get ready for the postseason.
9. Tower remains optimistic about the team just as he was right up to Wojos walking papers, and then he still was optimistic because MU was still paying Wojo for 2 years after his canning. Or was it 3 years?

How many of the last national champs won their conference tournament? No evidence whatsoever the extra day or two of rest does anything. Again just total give up loser mentality

Judge Smails

Chase had a great steal and dunk in the first half. Slick Rick called a quick time out - props to him for that. The game could've gotten away from the Johnnies at that point.

I agree, but will the team start shooting well all of a sudden?  It's hard to bet on that, but here's hoping Joplin keeps it rolling and Kam gets red hot starting on Thursday.  Kam knocked down some vintage KJ shots today.  Maybe that provides a spark.  I still don't get the missed free throws, especially from a team built around guard play.
