Not Tower but I think it's unlikely based on what he did his first 4 years.  If not year is a disaster and prospects for that following year don't look much better I suppose it could be a possibility.

I just find it hard to believe Marquette would find that acceptable, with a model that promotes growth. The trajectory should be going up, not down in years 5 and 6. We've basically restarted the program in year 5 and are in a much worse place than we were year 1.

I think he's safe after two years without the tourney. But then he's firmly on the hot seat. No tourney in three consecutive seasons ought to be a fireable offense, barring exceptional circumstances.

I could see that.

Does seem like a pretty long leash in the modern era though considering none of these players have any commitments to the program for more than a year at a time. If things go south 2 years in a row, any of these guys could up and leave at anytime and that would really throw a wrench in the plan.

I'm rooting for him! Hope to see some individual improvements from guys this year. Particularly the Sophomore class. They are so important to this model right now.

Golden Eagle, you're exactly right. I thought MU was on an uptick totally and by year 5 and 6 MU should be a team that would be in the top 20 year in and year out.  The NLI situation probably has hurt Shaka as his philosophy is to pay as they go, not overpaying a frosh.  I guarantee Shaka outworked Calapari for JJ Andrews, but for some it is all about the money.  What's my main gripe is Shaka's inability to recruit local kids, really thought Shaka had a chance on Dooney, oh well

I don't think it's black & white - you have to look at a variety of factors.  And yes, on-court performance is absolutely the most important.

Like it or not, there are going to be ebbs & flows with this program.  I think someone shared recently that Marquette is one of only 6 or 7 schools that have made the tourney the last 4 years in a row.

It's Shaka's job to minimize the amount of down years.

Agreed.
