Nick Boyd at UW, now in his 5th year of D-1 basketball was a high level portal acquisition, and he wasn't enough to stop UW from getting throttled by 28 in a neutral site game.  High level portal players who are likely high six-figure price tags, which if you allocated that to a one-year rental, that could result in losing Zaide and/or Parham - do MU portal fanboys prefer that type of trade?

If your best defense for not using the portal is citing a worst-case scenario, you've lost the argument. One could just as easily point to Amadou (or some others I won't name) and say "See, that's why you shouldn't try to develop high schoolers." I guess I have more faith than you in the staff's ability to identify players who would succeed here.

And if Marquette can't add a single transfer without losing multiple rotational players, it should probably get out of the big-time basketball business. It's obviously not for us.

The development of the sophomore and junior classes has been very poor, outside of Zaide. But prior to that it was great.

Was just about to post the same thing. Omitting those guys when talking about development is crazy.

And that's why a lot of people were cautiously optimistic about this season.

My point is that it most likely wasn't a random person betting on a Marquette player. It was likely a garbage fan of the program that is upset we aren't good.

Boyd is shooting 32% from 3 after having shot 35% last season and 34% the year before. I sure hope that if Shaka targets shooters for next season, he goes after someone who actually can, you know, shoot. Boyd has played exactly one game for your favorite team in a non-buy game ... and he  went 0-for-4 against BYU. Yep, he's been a true difference-maker for your Weasels so far.

MU needs rentals, I do not care if they will be a junior or senior, but time to use the portal next year.  You can say what ever you want about Boyd, but he is nice one year rental, just like Tonje last year.

We can shoot for not winning Tournament games without adding transfers. Greg Gard has made two Sweet Sixteens, one the year Bo Ryan coached the first half of the season and the other the next season, with all of Bo Ryan's players. He has 3 Tournament wins in the 8 seasons since. Shaka doesn't need to take a page from Greg Gard's book at all.

You can believe in Shaka's philosophy which is fine if you bring in some top recruits.  But some of his recruits have not panned out.  I thought Owens was going to be a star here, he has totally regressed.  Parham has not moved the meter either.  Now add a pitiful junior class and you have this team.  Next year unless the frosh step in right now and play, the team looks even weaker.  So unless you add a portal player this program and Shaka are going down. Adding one player should not be that hard, and there's at least 5 players that can go. Here is the problem why players do not leave MU, there MLI money here is very good.
