What depth did we have on the front line?




I see major gaps in the roster coupled with low ceiling players in those spots. Hamilton is not a high major player and neither is Norman. Gold isn't a center and is forced to play that role. Sean jones hasn't played basketball in two years.

The roster has talent but also has very clear flaws. Not supplementing the current roster with an addition or two puts a low ceiling on this team.

As it stands, next year could be pretty bleak. There's no clear cut guy who can even step in and fill Ross' shoes, let alone Ben Gold's right now. And that is telling. Lowery seems like the only other upperclassman with a pulse right now.

Shaka needs to really hit on at least 5 or 6 of those 9 recruits in the frosh/sophomore classes. For those who are following recruiting more - what are your thoughts on this next class (including RS)? Seems like Pearson has the most promise out of all the bigs on the roster. Hopefully Walker, Miletic and Johnson can all added needed shooting.

Agree. Feels like Marquette is defeating themselves with roster construction this year. It is one thing if you have a stocked roster and the other team defeats you but with no transfers feels like we are defeating ourselves.
I totally get what Shaka's  doing and respect it. But Kolek was a transfer. I get not wanting a whole new roster every year but a transfer every other year isn't a bad thing

Shaka 's approach is fine.  You just have to be right on recruits 75% of the time.    It makes sense to recruit, build and retain

It's fine when it works. Right now in terms of minutes, and based on this season, the rotation is:

1. Chase - Hit
2. Zaide - Hit
3. Gold - Hit
4. Royce - Miss
5. NJ - Hit
6. Caedin - Miss
7. Stevens - Hit
8. Jones - Miss
9. Owens - Miss
10. Norman - Miss
11. Clark - Miss

Now those could improve as the year(s) go on, but based on returns this year, a 45% hit rate won't get it done. Need Royce, SJ, & one of the bigs to be hits now to get where we want to go.

I think Parham may be a victim of expectations, but it's fair to say that five games into the season, he's hasn't shown the kind of developmental leap that many projected. And the fact Shaka would rather start Hamilton is a little worrisome, no?
Still very early, of course.

And yes, too early to call any of the frosh hits or misses, though we should all feel pretty good about James.

The real problem is the lack of growth and production from the 2023 and 2024 classes. Five of seven of those players - Norman, Amadou, Hamilton, Owens and Clark - are subpar major conference players right now. I see only one of them having the upside to potentially change that.
And if you're going to build your program on retaining and developing high schoolers, you can't afford to whiff on back-to-back classes.

I'm fine lowering the threshold. He's been a good role player in the minutes given. As a sixth/seventh man, he's a hit, but if you want to argue we're at 36% I won't disagree.
