This roster had Super Bowl caliber talent as constructed. Injuries highlighted the fact that what they don't have is depth to overcome it. No world where Gute is gone

Can't pin a 25-point fourth quarter on two injuries.

As I said, those injuries fundamentally changed the way the defense worked. They covered all year for the fact that they have .5 CBs on the roster.

It was an epic collapse and a furious comeback, but yes, this doesn't happen in those circumstances

Edgerin Cooper - probably their 2nd best player after Parsons - him going out in 3rd Quarter coincided with the awful 4th.

Cooper plays on offense?

No NFL defense should give up 25 points in a quarter. The last time a team gave up 25 points in the fourth quarter of a playoff game was 1993 ... and that included a safety and a pick 6.

He should be. Maybe next year's the year Gutes decides special team players are worth carrying so we don't have our starting running back returning kickoffs for the first time in his career in the Playoffs. Or a kicker who gives away 7 points.

Someday we'll get a guy who understands special teams are important.

He also decided Keshawn Nixon is CB1 material.

No one is rostering extra special teams players in a season where they have 20 guys on IR. If they did, they'd have been cut for replacements to play the other phases.

No disagreement on kicker.

this is not the first year special teams has been an issue.

Whoa ...
The score was 25 to 6 in the four(th) for Chicago.

That was a defense giving up 16 points - the D didn't give up the safety or pick 6.

I don't know that there has ever been a bigger collapse by a defense in the 4th Q of  A playoff game.

Gutes's first and second round picks as a GM are also Jaire and Josh Jackson, Gary, Savage, and Jenkins, Love and Dillon, Stokes and Meyers, Walker, Wyatt, and Watson, Van Ness, Musgrave, and Reed, Morgan and Cooper, and Golden and Belton.

Certainly some hits, and there are certainly some worse GMs in the Draft, but feels like it should be better than that. No firsts the next two Drafts, either.

They should repeat the 1999 draft and draft all DBs

What is the deal between MLF & Johnson? They really don't like each other.

Shaka Shart

Quote from: CreightonWarrior on January 10, 2026, 10:44:25 PMThe only way the team gets better is to get rid of the top because they refuse to make the people below them better. Not a single point in that game was it ever over because it's a weak minded team led by a weak minded coach.

Just another pathetic loss in probably one of least enjoyable seasons in a very long time.

This is a good insight. Lafleur is a great coach. The surrounding talent is not as good and it's a matter of pride that it's not.

The Bears are 3-3 when down 10+ points in the final 5 minutes of the fourth quarter.

Rest of the league is 3-158.

That's insane.

Jockey

9; 68.   For those who defend Hafley.

This is the pts. GB gave up in the 1st half vs. the 2nd half against the Bears. Hafley is even worse at halftime adjustments than MLF.

Ben absolutely curb stomped Hafley in all 3 games. Time to clean house. This is a team that barely makes the playoffs- not a contender. MLF is an OC - not a HC.

I don't know how you can possibly be scared to fire LaFluer and have fear of the unknown when what you DO KNOW isn't good enough for the franchise.

If the next coach fails, then they fail. But LaFleur has also failed with the QBs he's been handed in his tenure. There's enough data to know he's not going to change from mentally weak collapses every year. Frankly I don't know how you could possibly come back from this.

Sleeping on this, I think it's right.
