Quote from: tower912 on December 26, 2025, 12:03:59 PMI don't want to diminish what Ben Johnson did in Detroit or what he is doing with the Bears.  But he and Campbell worked fist in glove on the Detroit offense.  Detroit is running essentially the same concepts and plays.   What we all saw yesterday is the difference between Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff.   Behind a sieve of a line that has him running for his life, Goff cannot come close to winning games.   Whereas Stafford could.   Goff needs a running game, needs play action, needs to have his feet set and the ball to come out on time.  None of which happened yesterday.
As a Bears fan, I will say that Campbell is great HC with an incredible resume of turning around a floundering organization. Campbell and the Lions are not fading from NFL relevance.

And extending him means you believe he can be the difference maker on a championship caliber team, or that you can surround him with one as they thought they had in 23. They undoubtedly will keep riding with him. But it's a tough spot right now.

I really don't think they are in a "tough spot." They are fortunate to have a very good QB, one who is only 31 years old and one who has proven he can excel for a playoff-caliber team if he has a decent line. We all could name 10, 15, maybe more, teams that wouldn't mind having Jared Goff at QB.

Like I said a season ago, Goff cannot win games on the move with his feet, a la Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, Hurts, Caleb, even Love.  He does not extend a play, be does not make something out of nothing.

Saying all of that, prior to yesterday, 4000 yards, 32 TDs, 5 picks.

They also could convert a bunch of salary into a bonus to spread the cap hit out some more. And then before 2027 (and definitely 2028) they're in a good spot to either cut him without a ton of dead cap, or extend him.

From afar, it seems to me that the offense which struggled early a bit really "died" after Campbell took over the playing calling duties. The running game especially was gone with yesterday being the bottom.

Am I correct or did I just not see them often enough this year?

Dish

It's ridiculous the NFL didn't schedule a game for today.

Prior to yesterday, the Lions were averaging more points, more yards, and more explosive plays with Campbell calling the plays.

IMO, yesterday was about Glasgow and Decker being out, and Mahogany starting his first game in two months.  Related, Minnesota built on what Pittsburgh had discovered in the previous game, sending run blitzes off the corners from the weak side, and sending ever changing blitz packages on passing downs.

If there was a CFP game today they'd find a way to get a game today.

Eisen is a horrible play by play guy. The whole NFL Network broadcast is pretty bad.

wadesworld

And these Chargers uniforms suck.

CreightonWarrior

Pretty putrid effort by the defense on that opening drive. They could've known the plays and probably wouldn't have been able to stop it.

Dish

I don't know who is to credit/blame/whatever, but I'll die on the hill that the Packers offense is more efficient with Willis.

Vallentine has to be the worst tackling corner in the NFL.

Every single play so far on both drives for the Ravens has been successful.

This is every packers run defense I've watched for the past 15 years

Tougher team almost always wins. Not even up for debate tonight.

Packer defense mailing it in tonight.

This is a decimated team that will be going into the playoffs, and with these injuries, it's going to be short.

MlF refuses to let Love throw the ball and is exclusively calling pass plays for Willis.

He has the run game love doesn't but MLF calls a completely different game and it's absolutely maddening.
