I don't want to diminish what Ben Johnson did in Detroit or what he is doing with the Bears.  But he and Campbell worked fist in glove on the Detroit offense.  Detroit is running essentially the same concepts and plays.   What we all saw yesterday is the difference between Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff.   Behind a sieve of a line that has him running for his life, Goff cannot come close to winning games.   Whereas Stafford could.   Goff needs a running game, needs play action, needs to have his feet set and the ball to come out on time.  None of which happened yesterday.

As a Bears fan, I will say that Campbell is great HC with an incredible resume of turning around a floundering organization. Campbell and the Lions are not fading from NFL relevance.

It is. But that means they will likely extend him and/or kick the can down the road. And extending him means you believe he can be the difference maker on a championship caliber team, or that you can surround him with one as they thought they had in 23. They undoubtedly will keep riding with him. But it's a tough spot right now.

I really don't think they are in a "tough spot." They are fortunate to have a very good QB, one who is only 31 years old and one who has proven he can excel for a playoff-caliber team if he has a decent line. We all could name 10, 15, maybe more, teams that wouldn't mind having Jared Goff at QB.

They also could covert a bunch of salary into a bonus to spread the cap hit out some more. And then before 2027 (and definitely 2028) they're in a good spot to either cut him without a ton of dead cap, or extend him.

From afar, it seems to me that the offense which struggled early a bit really "died" after Campbell took over the playing calling duties. The running game especially was gone with yesterday being the bottom.

Am I correct or did I just not see them often enough this year?
