The Panthers have won 3 straight games but are expected to be without Bryce Young just as their schedule gets tougher.

Young, who suffered a high ankle sprain yesterday, reportedly will miss Sunday's game vs Buffalo and possibly the following week's game at Green Bay.

Andy Dalton will start in his place. The only other QB in the roster is Hendon Hooker.

so you're saying the Panthers only have one QB on the roster

I mean, people have been throwing racial slurs, homophobic slurs, and general ad hominem attacks at athletes in social media DMs for far longer than a certain administration has been in power.  I know its fun and easy to pretend everyone is shamlessly bold and different since November, but Twitter finger dipshits have never needed cover from prevailing perception or sentiment.  Same as the dudes calling women disgusting vulgarities or asking perverse crap in the DMs when their avatar is them with their wives or daughters.

(I actually just remembered my best friend in college, an African American starting safety whose dad was from Lagos, getting a friend request on Facebook after a game against Cincinnati and IMMEDIATELY upon accepting, getting called an "dirty African hard R" in a FB message ...and that was in 2008  :o)

Id argue the rise of DraftKings, FanDuel, and every other legal betting app has far more to do with a spike in racist DMs to athletes than anything political.  Your $10 player prop losing is ABSOLUTELY worth sending a slur via DM.

The Seahawks' offense worked real hard to keep the Texans in that game. Thankfully, Seattle's defense was just too good.

Darnold has mostly been outstanding this season, but he made two mistakes you just can't make. Hopefully he got it out of his system.

Read the messages. Pathetic that people feel the need act like this (Ty Haliburton talked about going to therapy because of social media crap like this) but where were the "racist" messages?

I agree that gambling has made this worse and is probably the main motivation for these cretins.

If you're willing to be racist because you lost a $10 prop bet, you're willing to be racist for free.

I'd argue the climate where our leaders are racists who honor racists is a bigger reason.

Racism is now fashionable again and even looked upon as a virtue in some segments of mainstream society.

Sure, but its still a catalyst.  I was being tongue in cheek about the amount, but like I said, people have sent deplorable racial DMs on social media for a decade plus.  But now, suddenly you have a bunch of people who have a vested interest in games being incensed by an outcome or player performance more than just their favorite team losing.  Fratstar Chad, who is a Falcons fan, isn't gonna send that DM about a game his team isn't playing in because "racists are now being honored", but he certainly would because his bet lost.  And that same dude would have done so when Biden was president.

If you're willing to be racist because you lost a bet, not only are you willing to do it for free, you don't need some sort of approval based on political climate.  This is a (usually) anonymous Twitter douche, not some public figure.

Well put.

Too bad some people can't simply call out horrible words and actions without trying to justify some larger personal agenda.

I think it has absolutely become more socially acceptable to use slurs in recent months/years.  Twitter/X becoming a "absolute free speech" space has brought the low life's and their behavior drives engagement.  And the relative anonymity of a twitter handle means there are no repercussions.

They might have positive regression that makes this a moot point, but right now they have the feel of the '22 Vikings that we knew were a bit fraudulent. They probably feel better about the Dallas game given Dak should probably be an MVP front runner, but they are less than the sum of their parts right now.

They have a head coach issue no matter what the record is.  They've survived Joe Flacco and Jacoby Brissett in games that never should have been competitive in the 4th quarter.

The good news is, I don't see a great team in the NFC.  The Eagles have issues on both sides of the ball.  The Lions look the part at times but can they stay healthy?  The Buccs are talented but propped up by winning close games late.  Probably not sustainable.  Seahawks seem good but I don't trust the QB against good pass rushes.  I think the Rams are the best team with the best coach but certainly not head and shoulders above anyone else in the conference.

I think Sunday is going to show a lot. Rodgers is smart enough to pick this defense apart with quick passes, especially to DK. And the Steelers defense isn't getting beat by bubble screens and the like, but by getting the ball downfield.

I said prior to the season that I thought this could be the year for Detroit.  I said my worries were how fast the O-line gelled and injuries.  I was not worried about replacing the coordinators.  I said I thought Sheppard would be more aggressive than Glenn and Morton more traditional than Johnson.  I thought the defense, if healthy, could be really good.

I wasn't far off.  They are getting through the early season injuries and (knock on wood) are looking to be at 100% by Thanksgiving.

I don't think Goff is in sync with Morton as he was with Johnson.  Detroit is struggling on third down and to distribute the ball in such a way that the defense can't focus on one player.

I think the o-line is adequate, but not as dominant as last season.  Glasgow isn't Ragnow.  Decker hasn't fully recovered from shoulder surgery and I can see him walking in the offseason like Ragnow did this past offseason.

I still see an extremely high ceiling for Detroit.  I think they have the pieces and potential to go on a run.
